is it worth it to test to determine which type?
Question: Is it worth it to have the blood test to determine which type of genital herpes i have? i was just diagnosed in the ER last week, and then my doctor confirmed the diagnosis later by looking at it. by the time i saw her she said that it was too late to do a swab test for this ob. she said that i could have a blood test to determine which type i have. but i cant decide if it would help me or not to know if it is type 1 or 2. also my boyfriend does not have herpes, and i am taking valtrex. does anyone have any advice? did it help you to know which type you have? would knowing the type i have make any difference in my sex life? currently me and my boyfriend are not having sex, and i dont think that we will be for awhile- he is not comfortable doing it for awhile, even if we are using condoms and such. he has never been with anyone else, so its not possible that he passed it to me. Answer: Actually it IS possible that he passed it to you. If he has hsv1 he could've given it to you thru oral sex. That's what happened to me. This is why it IS important to find out which type you have. If you have the same hsv1 in your genitals that he has orally then (from what I understand, ask your dr for sure) the odds of giving it to him genitally are slim...but anything is possible with this virus. I would certainly try to find out which strain it is and have your BF tested too, just because he doesn't have symptoms doesn't mean he is in the clear. My BF never remembers having a cold sore but he still gave me hsv1 after over four years of having oral sex and not getting it. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
