HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Question:
Ah.....another new year has come, full of hopes and promises in the area of herpes research and progress towards a cure. It's funny, as I think back on other New Years Eve nights........just how many kind people I briefly kissed.....just a small peck, at large parties, some folks I didn't even know. I didn't know they were.....SHEDDING! Indeed, what a better way to contract oral herpes than to attend a New Years Eve party! I believe that is the way I got it. Not from mom or dad, grandma or grandpa or even Aunt Sadie, but from one fateful night bringing in the new year with friends. No warning, no attempt to kiss on the cheek....no, it wouldn't be New Years Eve without a kiss on the LIPS!!! How many joined the club last night, you know, the 1 in 4 club? I bet we have lots of new members!! GOT CHA! Lots of people that were exposed, got it, and will not even ever know it. If you wipe the area clean fast enough, you can wipe the virus off before it has time to settle into the moist, lose texture of your mouth and start its journey down the nerve path where, they say, it resides for life! And yes, it will get passed around. Passed around to other friends, relatives, children. Families are known to populate this virus quickly. Like catching a cold. It spreads unknowingly. I was told the person that gave it to me probably didn't even know it. Well, that's nice.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Answer:
Victimylp,

Funny...!:-) The other day, I ran into an old lady who lives in this building. I like her, she knows many people in this neighborhood, always smiling, makes people feel good. I haven't seen her for a long time. She was happy to see me, and kissed me on my cheek, and I thought about the same thing! LOL

But then I thought.... this kind of kiss is an important part of our life. It's a comfort. I asked myself, would I want to give up the comfort and get a cold sore-free life in exchange...? No.. I wouldn't want that...

A bad thing is just an opposite face of good thing. They all come to us together. When we think of that, .... herpes is in a sense, trivial.....

Happy New Year, Victimylp!! Happy New Year, Everyone!!

I wish I didn't know I had HSV-1. I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago, and I have been having a very hard time with this. I've read many posts from people with herpes, and they say that in terms of dating, some people won't care that you have HSV. But even if they don't care, how can I kiss them with the knowledge that I may be transmitting to them this horrible virus?
On another note, has anyone read the guest post about being cured by HBOT? Do you think this is possible? Has anyone heard more about this kind of therapy?

Answer:
Hi,

I've heard that HSV-1 on your mouth rarely shed when you don't have actual outbreak.. You just have to be careful only when you have outbreak...

I think... this virus is letting us know the importance of caring your partner. When you care about someone a lot, you can't cheat, you can't just sleep around.. you know...
It's not that horrible virus.. when you care about someone, the someone will care about you, too. Then, kissing (knowing you have HSV-1)will be just a great expression of you guys' love and caring.

And.. yes, hearing HBOT and oxygen theraphy is pretty exciting, huh?
Well, I believe that those research will bear fruit. :D

Best wishes..

Answer:
My cousin has HSV1 orally - never kisses anyone when and outbreak is present, or coming. She has never passed it on to boyfriends, husband or children in 25 years. Kisses her kids all the time - the oldest is 11.

Learn your body, trust your instincts.

But even if they don't care, how can I kiss them with the knowledge that I may be transmitting to them this horrible virus? The same way you get in a car knowing people die in car accidents...

The same way you get on a plane, knowing planes crash...

The same way you eat at a restaurant knowing people get food poisoning...

Horrible virus :?: :?: :?: :?:

Maybe in your mind...

A few tiny blisters every once in a while????? Not so horrible...

Really when I think about HSV... The only thing horrible is the feelings we bring upon ourselves when we get it. That truly is horrible...

I agree with all of the positiveness you guys have put forth on kissing. You certainly can't stop kissing, as you can get the flu more likely from kissing than herpes when noone has an OB. I called the national herpes hotline and the nurse told me that HSV 1 does not shed. Therefore, if there are no outbreaks, kiss away!
I have the same sentiments as the one person had about "not knowing'. You know, I apparently lived with this virus for so many, many years just not knowing what I had. My husband never gets sores anywhere! I don't know who gave me both HSV 1 and 2. I lived a fullfilled life in all regards until I found out and you know, I really didn't cause anyone any harm, least myself. That Tagament article on Life Extension sounds interesting. Still, not a cure.

The person I kissed did not have a visible cold sore on his lips, and two weeks later, BOOM!, a very large sore on my lip. I'm assuming he is an asymptomatic shedder.

Victimylp, I read in another post that you never get an outbreak and that you are on Valtrex for suppressive therapy. how long have you been on Valtrex, and did you find it beneficial for oral herpes?
