has anyone had just one outbreak???

Question:
I learned I have HSV2 in June 2007. I haven't had another one.... how many , how frequent??

Answer:
I also was told I have hsv but hsv1, I have only had one TERRIBLE outbreak since. I am wondering if I'm just lucky. I drink smoke everything I was told I shouldn't do. I am wondering the same thing!

Answer:
I have only had one OB and that was my first in one year. From what i understand, its all about your immune system and how it reacts to it. Some people have reported not getting any in like 20 to 30 years others once or twice a year and others once or twice a month, but you still have it in your bloodstream even though you dont have anymore OB's. So, it is very important to keep a healthy lifestyle, smoking is defenitly not good. anyway hope this helps.

Answer:
I still smoke a pack a day and I haven't had an OB (that I'm aware of). I was diagnosed in Sept. However, a couple of weeks ago I started taking vitamins that boost the immune system so maybe that's working for me. I think we should just consider ourselves lucky but it's a little scary knowing at a terrible OB could be just around the corner. I know once that happens (if it happens) I'll be more inclined to take care of my immune system. Not exactly smart thinking and I'll admit to that.

But I've convinced myself that I have one of the "milder" strains of the virus. I hope I haven't just jinxed myself :)

Answer:
Hey,

Thanks! I also think I have a mild strain of H. I have always had a strong immune system, i.e. I have never even had the flu! I never get sick; I excercise, eat right, don't smoke..... I do drink, a few times a week.

Another question, has anyone , other than me, been told that there are 'strains' of H, much like there are strains of HPV?? It seems to make sense to me....

Answer:
I had my first and only outbreak (in April) while I was on vacation in Mexico. I thought my sun days might be over because of this virus, but I just got back from Mexico the other night and I haven't had another outbreak.

I took lysine daily but I ate corn everyday and had drinks while I was there. Not to mention I lived in my bathing suit and stayed in the sun and water.

I feel pretty lucky at this point as far as outbreaks go. If I could just muster up the courage to date again I would feel like a whole person. I can't get passed the fear having to tell a potential partner.

Answer:
I was only 19 when I was informed that I had HSV. Since my initial outbreak, I have not had any reoccurences. My diagnosis was in February 1999. That is almost 9 years OB free. I do not take any kind of suppression therapy. And until today, I did not know that there were various types of HSV contractions. Here is an article that you may have already read but I want to share with everyone in case you may not have seen it yet.

I discovered by reading this a while ago, that there is a very good possibility that I have been living the last 8 years in the dark about my own condition. When herpes was transmitted to me it was orally not genitally. And by the way this article reads, I most definitely have HSV1, if I wasn't misdiagnosed. I plan to have the antibody blood test ran to double check the initial diagnosis. The doctor I went to didnt even do a culture on me during my first outbreak..she just took one look & said yep thats it, take these pills & it will heal in about 5 days. She didnt even touch me. Stigma! Well I often wonder if I even have the condition. If I do or if I dont, I still live by the fear now. 8 years does alot!

As for telling a potential partner the dreary news about you. Yes its hard, I have attempted it many many times since I got diagnosed. I don't want to scare anyone..but in my personal experiences, only 2 have actually looked past it. Neither of the relationships worked out, but I honestly believe its because of other contributing factors as well. For me, attractiveness is a big issue because I am a big girl. In my tiny town, its all about the pin up concept. If you dont have a getto booty & big boobs w/ a tiny waist..most immature guys around here won't give you the time of day.

I would really love to continue talking to everyone. I am very happy to have found this site...because we all understand the heartache that comes with contracting this condition.

Answer:
After I was first diagnosed, I NEVER had outbreaks. Lucky right?! Bad thing was, I began to live in denial and think that maybe it was a false positive result, I really didn't have it, etc.
I didn't need to take antivirals, nothing.

THEN....when I was six months pregnant, I had an outbreak so damn bad, I thought my va-jay jay was going to either explode or just fall off....it was horrible. I chalk it up to two things: Hormones, and oatmeal. Hormones because I was pregnant, oatmeal because I guess it is my kryptonite where herpes is concerned. Prior to getting preggo, I was eating a atkinds friendly diet (so lots of protein, veggies, but also alot of NUTS....a trigger for some) but I was ALSO doing a lot of late night, drinking, dancing , smoking and having a grand time....and no out break.

Since my pregnancy, it does seem that I get outbreaks more frequently than I did before. Perhaps it is a combo of jacked up hormones, diet (I eat stupid carbs now...but no oatmeal) stress level...(I have issues that are WAY bigger than herpes happening right now...and these issues are affecting my health and my outbreaks) as well as maybe my immune system is just beat. I still do not get outbreaks THAT frequently, but definitely more than I did when first diagnosed. Still I read of people constantly having them and I feel so bad for them. I can't imagine...
