Oral HSV Something

Question:
I have oral herpes. I don't know which type. I know a lot, because I've been visiting here for a while, but will have more questions. I think most of my story is here:

I'm not too bummed about this. Most people have herpes of some sort somewhere. But I will definately have questions because I don't want to spread it to others. I am very angry with the doctors I've dealt with on this. Even the one who diagnosed me tried to downplay oral as just HSV1, an attempt that died completely when I told her it was likely I had been exposed to HSV2 through unprotected oral sex, and though they are different viruses technically, they present similarly enough that I consider them "the same thing". That said, I do want a swab test if I ever get the chance again for type, just in case I ever stumble across someone else with 1 or 2 and we want a relationship; I can at least know what I have antibodies against.

I'm not blood testing for reasons I've posted elsewhere.

Thanks for listening.

Answer:
I'm back. First question:

My dr. said that even though my outbreak was well inside my mouth, I could have an outbreak and be contageous anywhere in my mouth or on my lips, not just in the same area. She said "it is all the same mucous membrane." Does that sound right to folks here?

What your doctor says sounds about right. The virus goes into the nerve endings and can strike anywhere in the orofacial area, just like the genital infection can cause outbreaks anywhere from the buttocks to the vulva, to the upper thigh.

Answer:
Thanks for the reply. My sore was on the inside of my cheek. Apparantly this is quite unusual, as it prefers the lips or, if internal, the hard palate and...gums, I think?

I also get canker sores, and if it weren't for the look of the thing (and at one point pain in my jaw), I would have sworn it was one.
