Herpes Chin

Question:
I will try and make this as short as I can..

Got herpes (don't know how) about 2 years ago. Really affects my moral as I can get several outbreaks in a months time. Sometimes, a couple in a week. They can get rather big and the strange thing is they happen more often on my chin with the uggliest yellow pus that comes out. Then a scab will form and it falls off a while later.

In March of this year, my doctor recommended daily Valtrex which took religiously. Sores came back, while the outbreaks were shorter, the frequency was almost as bad a before.

Went back to see the doctor and he recommended we double the dosage... for a month ... did not do much better.

Yesterday, went back for follow up and now he prescribed Famciclovir which apparantly is very similar to Valtrex, but might have a different impact on me. It's been 24 hours and I have two huge cold sores on my chin...?

This sucks.. :( pardon my english, but it just seems as though I can't stop these outbreaks for the life of me...

Does anyone have any thoughts or might be experiencing the same thing ? I am thinking of stoping coffee consumption and avoiding any chocolate and alcohol... I am sure we all read on the internet that too much arginine will have a negative impact in light of the amino acid imbalance with lysine....

Any thoughts on taking vitamines,... eating special foods... praying maybe..?

Looking forward to everyone's comments..

P.S., I seem to have the type 1 only from what I understand as I have never seen anything below the belt.

Answer:
I take Famvir and find it helpful as suppressive therapy.

There are a few things that I've found I should avoid like the plague they include nuts and corn.

I think it is really important to drink lots of water and to eat fresh fruits and veggies. There is a thread about alkaline/acid diet theory and it makes a lot of sense.

Vitamin supplements are helpful if you can find the ones that work best for you. I don't find that olive leaf works for me but vitamin c w/bioflavanoids make a major difference.

Answer:
Those are good articles and I will try some of these tips.

I must say however, I get confused between increasing the Lysine intake and avoiding acid foods.

In many articles, I read that having a low ph level by a higher intake of acid foods will prone the virus to replicate... however, on the other hand, having a diet with high levels of Lysine vs. arginine will help stop the virus from shedding...

A good example is beef and chicken apparantly is a high source of Lysine... however, it apparantly forms lots of acid in the body? So what do you do ? which of the two do you focus on ? Lysine or a High level of alkaline (high PH level)....

Thank you again for your prompt responses...
