Question for the ladies
Question: Hi there, I recently had my first "outbreak." I've been married for quite some time and both my spouse and I thought we didn't have herpes. It's possible that I was the original carrier, but that's neither here nor there... Here's my question for the women who have hsv2: Since contracting the virus have your pap smears continued to be normal or have you developed abnormalities since the virus? I, unfortunately, also carry HPV. When I initially contracted that a decade ago, I had quite a few complications and had to get laser treatment for precancer cells on my cervix. I just hope I don't have to go through the same BS with herpes. Answer: I have never had any problem in my almost 5 years of having herpes. So I would say just by me guessing that you should be fine. I have never been aware of anything causing any problems other than just having to deal with Outbreaks. Answer: Every pap I've ever had has been normal, even after my diagnosis. Answer: hi, i have had HPV for about 10 years. I, too, had dysplasia as a result of contracting HPV. Since then, I haven't had any problems. In fact, I went for my annual exam about a month ago. My OBGYN told me that after 4 years of having HPV, the virus 'burns off'. I know, thats what he said.... I have only had HSV for 4 months. I have had one outbreak, and not another one since. My pap that was done a month ago cam back completely fine.... so, I am sure you will do fine. :) Answer: Awesome! Thanks for the reassuring info. I wanted to ask because I've read that women who have HPV AND genital herpes are more likely to suffer from cervical problems. Not sure why that would be. It could possibly be related to intervening variables and have nothing to do with the effects of the combined viruses. :D Violet Answer: Well, I also have HPV and I've had that for about 6 years, and I was told, that like Herpes, HPV never goes away. It's still in my body, even though it doesn't "show up." Fortunatley, somewhat...my pap smears have been normal(no pre cancerous cells) since I have contracted herpes (had that about 5 months now, newly contracted and diagnosed), or within the last 3 years. I was also told by my gyn that I should also be vaccinated for HPV(Guardisil), which I currently am in the process of, 1 more final shot, to protect myself for the other, more possibly dangerous forms/strains of HPV. Sidenote: Funny thing(well, not really) about vaccines, they make a HPV vaccine after I already got the thing and there may be a possible Herpes vaccine within the next few years, but what good is that to me.:-? Answer: I've had hsv2 for 32 years. Twice I had dysplasia, and they did a colposcopy once. They diagnosed me then with hpv, that was just before the hpv test was developed. I had to go back for smears every 3 months. Then they determined that I didn't have hpv after all with the new test, so I went back to annual checks and I didn't have an abnormal smear the next 3 years? Finally my obgyn said that I could just be allergic to the deoderant in my tampons or something. So I wear cotton undies and I use fem products now from Whole Foods that don't have clorine or frangrance. Does this help me? Don't know, seems to. Really, my experience is not so outside the norm given my age...lots of women I know have had an abnormal smear or two and they don't have hsv. All of us ladies with hsv are suggested to get annual paps instead of every 3 years, just to be on the safe side. I would just go once a year and not worry about it. Answer: I also have HPV (but no warts). However because of my age (I've just turned 22) I've only had one smear test. There WAS difficulty in taking a sample- but only because I had a HSV-2 ob on my cervix and therefore had to go back at a later date! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
