I have come to accept my diagnosis in having herpes1, BUt I am unaware how I got this. I am a married woman of 5 years but just found out June 2007 that I was positive. Is this possible that my husband has been monogamis and I just now am showing signs from someone from my past? How long can it take to detect this virus, I am super confused. He just got tested but has NO signs. I am aslo freaking out about HIV why is herpes and HIV so linked together?

Im going through the same thing! Thats how I feel!!! Why are they linked so closely together. That makes you feel as if they will never find a cure! Because why would they want to when Valtrex is making billions!!! Anyway from what Ive researched and read the virus can lay doormat for years. Also does your husband possibly have coldsores? About the HIV I am more scared because its says Herpes is a symptom od HIV I need to get tested so my anxiety will go away

This is my personal opinion and some people will disagree with me on here.

If you have sex with someone with HIV and you have open sores caused by herpes then yes it's more likely that HIV will be transmitted.

I have geinital herpes. I haven't ONCE been worried about HIV, just becasue of catching herpes.

If and when I have sex again with a new partner he would need to be screened for all STDs. I should have insisted that, 2 years ago, but hey, hindsight can drive you insane.

HIV is not a death sentence as it once was seen to be a few years ago. Medication has advanced significantly. But it's still in a league of its own compared with herpes.

If I had HIV I would get pissed off with people who get an occasional coldsore trying to equate that with HIV!

HIV and herpes are both often transmitted through sex, and they are both incurable, that's about all they have in common.

So I would relax about it.

And herpes is absolutely NOT a symptom of HIV - they are different viruses.

OK its a new day what I really want is if someone can give me any advice whether or not my huband cheated or if in fact I had this before we were together. Can it just pop up like this, see I am not sure if I had any signs and just ignored them until I had such a severe ob that it was finally noticed. I have only 1 outbreak which was AWFUL but maybe was ignoring other symptoms. I don't know like I said I have my doubts with my husband and its really starting to get to me.:-(

I've just been diagnosed too and cannot figure out how I got it. My partner does not have symptoms. At this point I'm thinking I may have ignored some subtle signs and had it before and did not realize. I read that that is possible. Also you mentionned herpes1..does your husband have cold sores on his mouth because HSV1 comes from mouth sores when you may have received oral sex? As for HIV ...I believe it's just easier to get HIV with sores, they are not related.

He has never had a cold sore in his life, he has not had one symptom either, I have never had cold sores either. I don't know everything I read contradicts what I actually have. The dr. said the test may not show anyting especially with out a ob.
