Question:
I have a history of cold sores..especially when very stressed...I also have a history of not feeling well...low-grade fever, chills, headache..and then I will feel the throbbing pain underneath my lip..of a fever blister trying to come out....usually I can keep it from surfacing with denovair cream. Recently, I've had the same ongoing symptoms almost every week or so....

HOWEVER, I have usually been told that it is a SINUS infection...eventhough I don't knowingly have major sinus problems..and had a cat-scan done of my sinuses and was told there were no issues.....

2 weeks ago, once again, I wasn't feeling so hot..so I stayed home and got some rest..the next day my bf came over and we had sex..looking back, the ONLY symptom I had earlier that day was after eating pineapple, my lower inside lip broke out in sores...so I thought it was just too much acid...by the end of the day it was better....and did not interfere with me performing oral sex on him...AGAIN, bc I had no cold sore symptoms, at all.........

The next morning I had a very sore throat, swollen glands, red spot on my throat, hurt to swallow, etc......I thought I was getting strep throat...stayed home, rested, gargled with salt water....He started to break out on his genitals!!!! He was diagnosed with HERPES.......and things I gave it to him.............I WAS SHOCKED...............by this time the red spot on my throat was gone, I did feel a cold sore trying to come out about 3 days after, so I put the denovair cream on..and went to my Dr.....by now I am having SEVERE headaches...taking 2000-2500 mg of tylenol a day..and in the middle of the night.......anyway, she said yes, it sounds suspicious, that I am the one who gave it to him....but that there IS a chance that he had it......

I get my blood test results tomorrow...........I have no genital sores or symptoms...thank goodness.........but WHY would I suddenly have such a horrible sore throat the next day...if I was the one who always had it all along bc of the cold sores and never really had this type of episode/outbreak before...........it sounds to me like I got it from him after performing oral sex...........I don't know..it's all very confusing.....I feel HORRIBLE if I transmitted it to him, or anyone in my past not knowing it....

Trying to play the blame game is fruitless. All I can say is that your coldsores is herpes it's called hsv1. You could have given him genital hsv1 if you were shedding at the time of oral sex and based on your post that seems likely. The theory is that you should abstain from sex from the beginning of the prodromal symptoms ( headache, tingles etc) until a week after the outbreak clears. When the prodromal symptoms are present you are starting to shed the virus. It also sounds like you could've been having an actual outbreak.

If he's positive for hsv1 (it can be oral or genital) then there's a huge possibility you gave it to him. However, if he was diagnosed via a culture test (where they swab the outbreak), he can take a blood test to see if he test positive. It usually takes 3 months to test positive in a blood test so if he's negative then it would mean that it's a new infection. Really, that's the only way to know if you gave it to him and that's only if you're sure he's been faithful.

you have herpes type 1, you could have easily given it to him and sounds like you did. Your symptoms all point to you being contagious before seeing anything or feeling anything in/around your mouth...but the prodomal symptoms were all there clear as day. Also, the thing about your sore throate and flu like symptoms....sounds like you were in fact sick with a cold or virus and because you were sick, your immune system was run down(very common) and this caused the virus to activate, making you contagious BEFORE you noticed anything.

My other point is, didnt he know you had oral herpes beforehand and that you can transmit it from your oral region WITH OR WITHOUT any symptoms present or prodomal signs???? so if he tests positive for type 1 it is pretty clear to say you did in fact give it to him (have him get tested by blood and culture because a culture is only effective if it is done when enough active virus is still on skin, before it retreats back into the nerves and the end stage of outbreak is there) so have him get blood tested and if negative at first have him go back in 6 weeks or so to retest....and also hopefully they gave him a culture test and if so you can find out if it is in fact type 1, which if it is i would say you did give it to him. If it is type 2 on the other hand,then i would think he already had it.

also, the possibility that you already passed your herpes virus on to him during other times when you gave him oral sex is a definite possiblity if positive....people dont always show symptoms immediately,however, in the incident you described the timing is just too right to not have just passed it on to him....you had ALL the symptoms of being contagious and were run down and immune system was low, so the virus had the perfect opportunity to act up in you and make you contagious before and after you actually felt/saw any signs on yourself.

Thanks for your responses...unfortunately, I did not get my results back today...hopefully tomorrow..the only thing I found out today from the nurse was that my HSV levels were "out of range"...and she didn't know how to interpret them...so she is going to have the Dr. call me.

I am learning about this sneaky disease..which..I really didn't know a whole lot about...other than..once or twice a year I get a full blown fever blister...other than that.....I have always been told my "other" symptoms of being run down, not feeling good, low-grade fever/chills..was a sinus infection...I've been told that for 10 years now........so technically, I had NO IDEA I was having prodonal symptoms...I have never been told ANYTHING about having HSV-1 and what the symptoms were other than the occassional fever blister from stress............

So, unfortunately, I think I've learned about this like many other people...not knowing much about it......I know when I was with my ex bf of 6 yrs whenever I got an actual fever blister, we knew not to kiss or have oral sex........but this time, I had no warnings of a fever blister..until about 4-5 days after having oral sex.

I am also wondering if I now have genital herpes...the only symptoms are occassional vague "burning" sensation inside...no sores..no problems urinating, but for the past 2 -3 days, I've had a tiny bit of discharge..nothing major. I have no sores though.......

So when my Dr. calls me I am going to ask if I should come in for her to check my genitals and do a swab test....I was on my period last week and also had no symptoms or pain down there......so that's why she did a blood test...

I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for ALL of your information.....I have been on Valtrex now for a week and today was the first day in about 2 weeks that I did not have a SPLITTING headache...I've been taking about 2,000 mg of tylenol every single day for 2-3 weeks! Ughhhhhh.

My Dr. has been out the past 3 days so I still have not had my results "confirmed"...other than the nurse advising my HSV levels were "out of range"..but she did not know how to interpret them..sooo, I'm still left waiting...ughhh.

This morning I decided to try to treat myself for a yeast infection...it has seemed to help calm the faint burning...but I am afraid bc of what I've been reading...other posters said they thought they had yeast infections as well...and it turned out to be genital herpes.

I'm taking 500mg of Valtrex, taking a ton of vitamins (Stress Tabs), and today I also bought a bottle of "Immune Support"...it has Euchinnecea (sp).., Olive Leaf, Zinc..and a lot of other things in it..and am drinking a ton of water.

Now the "paranoia" is setting in....or things start to come together the more you have time to think about it...I did have what might appear to be an ob on my arm...tiny tiny bumps (2-3) near a mole..it started out as a very small red rash...and then I noticed the bumps...so I am assuming I also have a form of herpes there...it is scabbed now...teeeeny tiny..u cannot even see it..looks like a pin prick...........I've also noticed a pimple like thing on my buttocks...which I normally don't get..or not very often...so I'm wondering now if that is also herpes......

If I could get my DR. to call me back I will run all of this by her....but in the meantime..............I'm not really stressing....bc I know that won't do me any good........I am just going to assume that atleast the one on my arm is herpes....

Actually, I did have discharge with mine. My doctor said it was BV twice and hit me hard with antibiotics, which in turn caused a yeast infection and thrush in my mouth. Nice. Anyway, yes, discharge is possible. Mine was very similar to BV discharge.
