High Blood Pressure & Headaches from Valtrex?

Question:
Hi everyone,
I am fairly new to this site...3 weeks...and have been on Valtrex. Progressively my headaches have gotten worse...I had a follow up visit with my Dr. today and my bp was 160/102....she/we are thinking it might be the Valtrex....I've seen other posts about it..but now of course, I can't find it anywhere....ughhh...and my head is killing me.......my temples are throbbing with pain. I've taken about 2,000 mg of tylenol already today with NO RELIEF.....

I am bummed out if it is the Valtrex...I was hoping to take it all of the time to help my oral HSV-1 bc I have a very low immune system... :(

Anyone else experience this?

Answer:
I haven't taken Valtrex but here is the link to their website. I didn't see anything about high blood pressure problems when I did a quick look at side effects.

http://www.valtrex.com/

There are other daily suppressive antivirals such as Acyclovir and Famvir.

Answer:
When I googled it, it said Valtrex could cause both..that is what alerted me...I stopped taking it Thursday..and my Dr. put me on Toprol yesterday, a BP medicine...bc my blood pressure was 175/102......ughhh.......she really didn't think it was the Valtrex...but said I could stop it and then add it back in once my bp was under control and see what happens...I am thinking of taking Lysine instead though. She also thought it might be some "Stress Tab" vitamins that I've been taking..they're supp to help your body handle stress better...but it has some kind of "energy" in it that may be freaking my body out.........

Soooo, we'll see....today my bp was excellent....124/80........no headache...just a little dizzy...hoping that will go away.

Answer:
Hi
I am glad I found someone talking about side effects. I have been taking acyclovir for 4 months now for a suppression therapy. The first 2 months I noticed blurred vision, diarrhea and headaches, plus some arrhythmia, by the 4th, actually I am almost in the 6th month now, those side effects are gone, but you have to drink a lot of water it is very important. Unfortunately my hair is falling, and it is not growing back, plus I have some red rush from time to time. I think the hair is due to acyclovir or valtrex, people report it, but the problem is I can't find any info on what happens next. There is no research on what happens after 1 year on meds. I am on 400mg two times a day, no outbreaks but afraid of the side effects. I have tried Lysine and anything for the immune system, but you can't lie to your body, when you are under stress you are, but how can you escape it, it is a vicious cycle.
