can genital herpes be passed with oral?

Question:
for example a girl that had it but didn't know could have passed it to me giving me oral? we had sex twice with a condom everytime.

Answer:
if a girl sometimes (or even once) gets a cold sore and she gives you oral, YES she can give it to you. From my understanding there are times when there are no physical symptoms but when the virus is active in your skin. A lot of people have told me that oral HSV is HSV 1 and only causes cold sores and that HSV 2 is the only one that causes genital symptoms. This is wrong.

HSV 1 and 2 can be at either site, however, 1 tends to prefer above the waist region (cold sores on face) and HSV 2 prefers below the waste (genital regions). There has been some talk about how having HSV infect an area that is not it's area of choice will result in less frequent and as bad symptoms for example if someone with a cold sore (if it was HSV 1) gave you oral and you got HSV 1 on your genitals then in theory it shouldn't be as bad. I know people here will tell you that's not true as per personal experience. It really depends on the person.

And yes, sex with a condom can still get you infected as well. I'm sure when you were having sex that there was still skin contact. If she has either type of HSV on her genitals you might have come in contact with asymptomatic areas which would infect you. THe only thing I can say is that if she had a cold sore and the HSV infection is ONLY on her face and you ONLY had intercourse sex, there was no skin to skin contact with infected areas.

It's good to go get blood tests done if you think you might have it. It won't tell you where you are infected (genital vs. oral) BUT it will be able to tell you which type you have which might help.

Does this answer your question?
