Your result falls into what's called 'low positive'. You should re-test. If your second test is below 3.5 on the HerpeSelect ELISA test, then retest again with the BioKit Rapid HSV2 test or the WesternBlot test.

If you are positive, there's no real way to determine how long you've had it. Going 7 years without knowing is very very common.

so it is possible to have it for years and not know it? I just don't get any of this. I hate to keep bugging you but this is getting outrageous. I don't understand why they say from 12 to 16 wks it can detect it, it seems obiviously that's not the case.
