Genital Type 1 - I don't get it, but I'm devastated

Question:
i don't understand how i have type 1 genital. i really did not think this was common. can anyone shed light on this? does this mean it will be really likely that i can spread it to someones mouth???

Answer:
It means that you have a highly contageous virus that you can spread to someone else through skin-to-skin contact with the infected area. Herpes (both types) most easily spread through mucous membranes, like the genitals and mouth, but can also enter the body through a cut--even a microscopic one--on the hand or chest or leg.

There is some evidence that Type 1 prefers the oral area and Type 2 prefers genital, but both can infect where there is an opportunity elsewhere, even th hands. Often people/web sites/doctors equate Type 1 with oral and Type 2 with genital, but this is not always true. Type 1 genital, especially, is becoming common.
