Colsores and Genital Herpes
Question: Can someone clearly spell out to me the link between coldores and genital herpes. I suffer from outbreaks of Coldsores on the bridge of my nose and treat it with Zovirax cream. I have never suffered from genital herpes. I have now started taking 2000mg per day of Lysine as has my wife. What I would like to know is: 1. Can an active cold sore be transfered sexually- in other words if I had a coldsore on my face and adminstered fellatio to my wife, could this manefiest itself as Gential herpes? 2. Should the treatment with Lysine be ongoing and for how long- can this cure the problem. Please help??? Answer: Yes, you can transmit Herpes from a coldsore on your mouth to the genitals of another person via Oral Sex. You should definitely abstain up to at least a week or two after the cold sore goes away. This is how people get Type I in their genitals (as opposed to the usual Type 2). There is no cure. You can take lysine in the hopes that it will boost your immune system, but there are no tests that I have seen that actually prove that it is effective. There are antivirals you can take to try to suppress herpes (genital...and it's a good idea if you have frequent outbreaks), but I've heard that there may be side effects (liver problems0 years down the road.
