Question:
I just found out that I have Herpes. The doctors have put me on valtex. I got and URI infection last week and two days later a rash started on my chest. It started with a hot feeling. Is this herpes? How long does an OB last? Scared and uncertain on how to handle this situation. Any advise is welcome.

Answer:
I suppose there is an outside chance that your rash could be herpes but I doubt it very much. You described it as a rash - do you have the same type of sores that you had during your first herpes outbreak? That would be a clearer indication of whether or not it's herpes. The prodrome (symptoms you feel right before an outbreak) is generally described as a tingly feeling and some people experience a slight itch or mild burning as well. We're all different and it takes time to recognize the symptoms.

Please call your doctor, not just because you've been diagnosed with herpes but because you've got a condition that's worrying you. It could be the valtrex, it could be the URI or the meds you were prescribed for that, it could be something entirely different or it could be herpes. Only your doctor can give you an accurate answer. That's what she/he is there for!
