How do you deal with the cost of the medicines?

Question:
I have had genital herpes for 4 years now and i am finding it really hard to cope with the costs. Does anyone know what else i can do? I have altered my diet to cut out the sugar and chocolate and peanuts but afterall i am a woman and sometimes i can't help myself. I have an outbreak every couple of months and the valtrex is about 50.00 here for 7 days, so it gets a little expensive. Any other suggestions?

Answer:
I take acyclovir, 400mg per day everyday. I have BlueCross and it only costs me $10 a month. The generic drugs are almost always cheaper and in most cases, though not all, they can be just as effective as the expensive, name-brand drugs. I haven't had an outbreak for 2 years and I don't even worry about what I'm eating. I'd talk to your doctor and see if she/he can prescribe something more affordable just for a trial period.

Best of luck,
Gracie

Answer:
Thanks for the reply Gracie, unfortunatlly i don't have a drug plan and i am afraid that if i apply for one i won't be excepted because of this being a pre existing condition. It is very expensive for me and i don't always have the money for it. I have tried some of the cheaper brands but i find they make me sick, so i am in a no win situation i guess.
