I have some questions about symptoms in men...

Question:
I'm deperate to get them answered. I am a female who has had genital herpes for over 20 years. I've been in a monogomus, married relationship for nearly all that time and my husband never has been infected. Recently I have a new partner and told him of my herpes before engaging in any sexual activity. As far as I knew, I was not having any active outbreaks and last week 2 days after we had been sexually active for the first time, he developed a irritated feeling in his penis. You cannot see anything, but he says it feels irritated and raw just inside his penis and tender on the outside. My biggest question is, can a male get it inside his penis? All the pictures I've found on the internet show it on the outside. Thanks!

Answer:
so far the closest thing i have found to herpes being on the inside is the picture on this website showing it on the urethra opening, but it doesn't have anymore information about it spreading further inside. the picture is 3rd from the top on the left. hope this helps...

Answer:
We don't see anything. Just feels tender and irritated, uncomfortable and he has a sore throat. I had no idea I could be contageous when there were no visable lesions. When I was diagnosed nearly 18 years ago, my doctor said I was not contageous unless I had an outbreak. I've taken Acyclovir for years and really never talk anymore to my doctor about it. Only get 3 to 5 outbreaks a year. My husband never got it in our 18 years together and now after twice making love with someone new, I find I may have infected him! Ahhha! Thanks again.

Answer:
Are you sure it isn't all in his head? I have been there and have read up on it, and I guess it is common. I am sure you?re the first person he has been with that has had HSV, and he might just be freaking out. As far as I know, the initial contact has to be skin to skin or a situation where the virus can survive the transfer from one person to the next. I have read that if you do have HSV-2 you should use lubricant to reduce friction and microtears in your skin during sex. This is because your skin is a natural barrier against germs and viruses. It is only during periods where there is a break that an infection will usually occur.

I hope that helps

Answer:
He like me, was in a monogomus relationship for over 16 years and was not exposed to the virus till me. It never occured to me that I could be contageous without an active outbreak so we didn't use protection. I was upfront with him though before we even came close to making any sexual contact. I was infected many, many years ago. Thanks for your response.
