Concerned .......

Question:
On Friday morning I woke up and was taking a shower and while washing my face felt a bump on my lip. The bump felt like a BB under my skin. I've battled "canker sores" ever since I could remember.. probaby 8-10 years old from what I remember. So I thought I was going to get a canker sore.

Later that day my lip began to swell. By evening time it was probably 4 times the size it should be. The following morning I woke up and still the same way. I called and made an appointment to see the doctor.

I told the Doctor basically what I've experienced in the last two days and without hesitation she said, "You have herpes." ( which I thought was a rude way of doing things) She did a culture on it and I suppose I'll find out within the next 2 weeks.

I've done a ton of research now and found that cankersores and herpes are not the same thing. This issue I'm having now is different because of the fact that I've never had anything make my lip swell. It feels exactly like a cankersore but my lip has swelled.

Anyhow the Doctor gave me Valtrex samples and also prescribed a dental paste.

Has anyone ever had there lip swell up due to HSV? It literally looks like I got punched in the lip. I actually talked to a Physicians Assistant at my work and he asked if I ate spicy food the night before ( Yes, I did ) and explained that I was having a reaction to the red peppers.

As I'm sure everyone has gone through, this had severely depressed me. I have been married for nearly 5 years and have never stepped out on my wife and trying to figure out how I could have gotten this. ( of course fingers point to the wife, but I'm confident she would have said something ) Is it possible I have a cankersore gone crazy due to the spicy food I ate?

Any opinions and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
you're wife doesn't have cold sores? that herpes type 1 and if you have kissed anyone with type 1 and now you have herpes that's how you may have got it, if it's type 2 i'm not so sure...hope that helped

Answer:
Thanks for the reply.

I was chatting with an Ex-GF from before I was married via instant messenger and asked her if she'd ever had a cold sore. Her reply was "yeah".

This didn't please me in the least, possibly got this from her and have been carrying it around ever since? Who knows. She also tried to tell me that it's only contagious when she was having a break out. I explained that she could be contagious anytime but obvously a break out would make her more contagious.

The more I think about this more it makes me angry. How careless?? How wreckless?? She never told me she had cold sores while we dated !! I didn't go to work today because my lip is still slightly swollen and I didn't want to go to work looking like rudolph the red lipped reindeer.

Anyhow, I guess I'll know in the next couple weeks when my doctor sends me the news in the mail.

It seems like people seem to think that Cold Sores are no big deal... and this confuses me even more.

argh.
