need some experienced information PLEASE

Question:
I have been doing some massive research over the past few days and just cannot seem to get the answers I need-- I am hoping some of you could shed light on my concerns.

In January, My ex-husband and I began divorce proceedings. I have not been intimate with anyone except my husband for eight years. A few days ago, I engaged in unprotected sex with a gentleman (NOT) who I had been developing a relationship with over the past couple of months. No protection of any sort was employed. Later that evening, he informed me he has hsv-2 and has been positive for 10 years. He claimed his outbreaks occur on his upper right buttock and the he takes daily suppressive therapy. I know I am not hsv2 + as when I began divorce proceedings, I had my OB perform a total STD panel of tests.

My question is this-- Suppose you had engaged in unsafe sex in this same above scenario, what is the likelihood I have contracted this infection?

I have felt tingling but I am not so sure I am not just completely paranoid.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Answer:
you are probably not going to get very many replies because it is doubtful that anyone knows the likelihood of contracting hsv-2 in the particular scenerio that you described; however, i would think it would be minimal if his outbreaks are on his ass. unless you are doing some freaky stuff where your genitals are touching his back side because gh is spread through skin to skin contact. its hard to say...gh is so unpredictable.

Answer:
I agree, chances of transmission would be low if he was between outbreaks, and his only site was on his bum. Even lower if he was on medication.

The only thing that I'd add is that without a sore to culture - which thankfully it sounds like you don't have. It will be difficult for your doctor to diagnose.

If things check out, you still may want to do follow-up testing (blood work) in 3 to 6 months to see if your body started producing any antibodies (sign of exposure). It may be too early for results at this point.

Try to not obsess about it (very easy to do), be careful, and good luck.
