HSV1 & 2- Is that Herpes? What are antibodies

Question:
I was told by my Dr. that I do not have Herpes but do have antibodies of HSV1 & HSV2. He says its nothing to worrie about. I have never had a sore of any kind. (No break outs at all) My ex boy friend from 5 years ago does have Herpes) I did not know until my current boyfriend had a problem after having sex with me. He got a small sore on the head of his penis that turned black after a day or two; it later went away about 1 week later. We do not sleep together often because he lives out of state; but this happen to him again recently. I went back to the Dr. (another Dr.another test) and he tells me the same thing. I'm so confussed. My boyfriend thinks I'm not telling him the truth. As a matter of fact he has been VERY mean about the entire situation. I'm so confussed. Can anyone HELP me understand? *Just a Girl in need of Help*

Answer:
Your doctor is a nut.....if you have antibodies that means you were exposed to the virus and do have it even if you show no signs....sometimes it takes years to show symptoms.....if ever

my doc told me that herpes wasnt a big deal and that i shouldnt get tested because if i test positive i will be obligated to tell my future partners....I feel as if they want everyone to get the virus.....

You could have spread it to your recent partner but explain t o him what your doc said because you had no idea.....and go back to your doc and tell him he needs to go back to med school......

u should probably tell your partner to get tested to know for sure because you came out positive for the virus. Good luck

Answer:
Thank you so much for the responce. This was the second Dr. I went to. They both said "oh, even I have antibodies in my system." *They said that if you had a cold sore as a child or the chicken pox you would have antibodies. This is all so crazy to me. I feel like I can never be with anyone again. My partner is a real health nut; so he is going crazy. If he had a sore on his penis, I did give the virus to him didn't I? Can I get sick over the years from this virus?

Answer:
it is said that your initial outbreak is the worst and as time goes on it is less severe...who knows if you will ever get an outbreak....you might not just use protection when you have sex....

as to cold sores and chicken pox they are both a type of herpes....i have read that it is possible toget a positive reading because of chicken pox but never actually heard someone say it happened to them.....as for coldsores that is true.....i have hsv-1 not because i contracted it sexually but because i got it when i was younger......lots of kids get coldsores (which are hsv type 1 and can be spread "down yonder") from adults kissing them......im 22 and have had it since i was a baby i guess.....it stinks because i am now obligated to tell everyone i have hsv-1(even though i didnt catch it from sex)....

do you know what your antibodi levels were? because you can have antibodies in your system but just because you have antibodies doesnt mean you have hsv......if your level was higher then a 1.10 then you are positive if its below i think 9.0 its negative...so hopefully it was below....

Answer:
-Its me again....in the prior comment i wrote the antibody levels.....did your doc say you have antibodies below the positive mark? i think i misunderstood what you were saying at first i thought you tested positive because of your antibody level and your doc said that you were ok....ask him for a copy of the results because it might turn out you dont have it
