Constant OBs after 13 years of none....similar experiences??

Question:
I was initially infected 14 years ago. I thought it was the end of the world and that it was going to destroy my chances at marriage/children. Luckily, after my horrendously severe initial outbreak, it never came back again.

Unfortunately though, 13 years later, after marriage & one child, I started to break out on a constant basis. I would estimate that 6 of the past 12 months were spent with an outbreak. And I don't mean one 3-5 day OB per month....I mean that one OB clears and another immediately begins....making it weeks (or months) at a time that I have an active outbreak. I was on Valtrex as a supressive therapy for a few months but it didn't seem to help. I then was switched to Acyclovir 800mg and still not helping. Now I've been bumped to 1200mg of Acyclovir for the past 5 days and still not clearing things up.

This is horrible. We now want to try for baby #2 but I can't seem to get a break from these OBs to even try to get pregnant.

I'm desperate to know if anyone out there has had a similar experience.... and what you might have done to get some relief.

Answer:
i am not a fan of prescription medicine... valtrex.. zovirax and so on..

and since you have had hsv for several years.. it may be possible that your body is quite use to the meds you are taking...

try to boost your immune system naturally...

Lysine helps alot i find
vitmin c
vitamin b
zinc
euchinasia

by boosting the immune you can fight the virus... if you have outbreaks very often.. it is a sign that you have a weak immune system

Answer:
That makes sense what you said, but, the weird thing is that I have only been on the meds for a couple months. Not to mention that I already take L-Lysine, C, and B. I don't take Zinc or Euchinasia though...I'll definitely try those. I've also seen Olive Leaf Extract mentioned a bunch too.....maybe I'll give it a try.

The dificult thing here is that I barely get breaks between outbreaks. I had them the entire months of September & October, parts of November, all of December.....and so far, all of January too! You can imagine what my husband thinks about the effect it has had on our sex life. He's been great about it...but, it sucks...really bad.

Answer:
sorry to hear about that... but you should also look at your diet.. i know that foods such as nuts, peanut butter and other foods with high ARgenin (not spelt right) can trigger outbreaks... check your diet keep taking lysine... maybe you should up the dosage for lysine

Answer:
im sorry to hear about you way to often outbreaks im just getting over my first outbreak and i know how painful it is. when i first found out about me having this virus i was deeply sadend cause i thought that i could never have children without giving this awful thing to them. please tell me how you were able to get preagnet and give birth without giving this to your child?

Answer:
Hi Katharine.
I had a similar problem. I had herpes for years but just one bump that came up on my buttocks every few months. It got to where it was genital, and the same kind of chronic infections you're describing. Someone on this site suggested I get blood work and test for any immunity problems including lupus, thyroid, etc. I did and turned out I had hypo thyroid which explains it. If your suddenly getting these unending ob's there's probably a reason. If it's thyroid, it's easy to treat.
Best wishes.

Answer:
Hi Layla,

I was very interested in your post. What type of immune system tests did you have other than a full blood count, thyroid, lupus etc?

I have had these tests but nothing shows up and I keep getting OB's all the time. It's getting to the desperation point.

Thanks,

Laney.

Answer:
Laney,
Do you know what your THS levels are from the thyroid test? Some people are in the "normal" range, but it's not optimal and there can actually be a thyroid problem. Any thyroid problem can cause chronic infections.
Have you always had terrible ob's or did you have a mild case that got worse? If it's always been bad maybe you could have a bad strain...?
I've been told that anything that compromises your immune system can
make herpes worse. That could be things serious like lupus, thyroid, hiv, or cancer, to lesser things like chronic stress, poor diet, lack of exercise,
lack of rest, etc. Sometimes even a vitamin defefiency.
Hope this helps. I'll check back for your reply.

Answer:
Hi Layla,

Thanks for your reply. My whole situation is really weird. For the last 2 years I have had what I think are OB's (one doctor agrees and others aren't sure), however my first Western Blot test was inconclusive for HSV 1 and negative for HSV 2. The second Western Blot was negative for both and three EIA tests have been negative.

I had the flu and then a genital blister appeared about 6 months after being with a guy who had a sore in his pubic hair. (Yeah, I saw it after the event!) Anyway, I've had many tests and everything comes up normal. It has been suggested I might not have detectable anitbodies, hence the severity. I get most of the symptoms about twice a month sometimes for a few days and sometimes for a week and a half.

As for the thyroid test. I've had two and they are apparently normal. I'll check them and let you know the level. My Mum has a thyroid problem so sometimes I find it hard to believe. I've also been told that there is a more accurate test that tests for antibodies.

I have thought about the virus strain possibility. I really hope that's not the case because that means I will never minimise this! If anything, they seem to have got worse. I also had meningitis which was really fun.

I'll look into the thyroid levels...

Thanks,

Laney.
