No Testing in Canada???!!
Question: Hello, I've started dating someone that I've known for years and everything was going great and then he mentioned he broke up with his ex because she told him she had herpes - months after they had already been sexually active. He swears he has never had any outbreaks and seems completely confident that he doesn't have herpes. He went to the doctor with me and they tested him for everything, but told us there was NO TEST for herpes. Now I just don't know what to do. I already get coldsores, so I KNOW I don't want genital herpes. On this site I see people talking about getting their blood tested, but here in Canada everyone just tells us there is nothing we can do to know for sure. Please, if anyone can help us.... Answer: Im pretty sure the same tests can be done here. Sorry your getting such false info. its hard to find help out there. Hugs! Ramona. Answer: did you check the web for std clinics; sites; that may provide some information. i cannot imagine Canada tests for everything but herpes??????? Answer: I mentioned to a friend lately about all of the people I hear about in Canada who have difficulting getting testing and he suggested that he heard you can get covered for testing done in the US. Is this true? If so you should try it. Answer: I feel your pain and frustration believe me. I too was told that there were no tests available for hsv2 and most places don't just test for hsv1 because most of the population is positive. I live in B.C. After months of pulling my hair out and suffering with symptoms and humiliation from my dr, I read on the net somewhere that mdx laboratories did the wstern blot and I was elated. Only to find out that it wasn't showing up on thier website. SO... I e-mailed thier head office in Ontario and they were kind enough to e-mail back and said that they refer thier patients to St. Paul's hospital in Vancouver for the western blot test. I have not actually spoken to the lab at St. Paul's but I will and am planning to go down in august. I also spoke extensively to a wonderful std nurse at the std clinic in Vancouver who indicated that it was possible to be tested as well. She was VERY supportive and informative and I found that 1-800 number in the government listings in the blue pages (sorry don't have it in front of me at the moment). I don't know where in Canada you are but there IS a way to get tested but for some of us it might take some persistance and travel to do it. I can tell you I have had about enough of this virus over the last 5 or 6 months and I WILL GET TESTED !!! As I find out more (and I will..) I will keep you posted on the forum. All the best for now and hang in there.. ms. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
