Question:
Im curious as to how many people have told family about having this? I am currently living at home and it is KILLING me! I wish I could tell my parents but I dont know how they will think of me after telling them. *sigh* :cry:

Well, I have had it for aout 6 years and just now told my brother after all this time. Never shared it with ANYBODY in the WORLD, figured it was 'marital business' so to speak. Now that the marriage is ending, I know I have to have someone trustworthy to talk to about my insecurites and finding someone new one day. So my brother knows, and he didn't give a damn about it. Told me he would always love me and would never judge me for it, ESPECIALLY as I can still count my partners using one hand one time, LOL, and got stuck with this shit in the bonds of matrimony. Life can be a real joke sometime, I swear!

This Sucks, figure out who you would trust in your family WITH YOUR LIFE, and share it with them. It relieves the burden of carrying this shit around, I swear. I understand your need to be private, no one is more private than me, which is why I get depressed about the thought of having to share this with potential partners. You're right, THIS SUCKS!

I didn't tell anyone in my family, my parents found out cuz I started taking valtrex on their insurance. My mom must of told my older sister cuz one day when we were wrapping presents for my mom's b'day. Some how the topic of diseases came up and she looked right at me all of a sudden and said people with diseases are dirty. I ran to my room and didn't let her see me crying. She called me two nights ago crying about her bf and I just hung up on her.

My parents do not know and I dont know if I will ever tell them. I really really wanted to tell them when I found out for sure that this is what I had but I just couldnt. My main problem is that while living here its a bit stressful in keeping them from it. Drs calling here at the house and all that, and my moms asking me whats wrong. just remember that once you tell...you cannot ever "untell". so...i suppose you should base your decision on past experience with your family on sensitive and intimate isssues. how have they reacted in the past when you were going through problems. do they tend to be critical and judgemental, or supportive and nurturing. i think it depends. if they are critical in other ways...i definitely would not tell them. people are who they are. they dont change their basic temperment or style in difficult situations. in fact, those qualities tend to be magnified. so if they are very nurturing, and your are going through a difficult time...they may be more nurturing than normal...and vice verse.

The only person I've told is my boyfriend, of course, since I may have actually gotten it from him, but neither of us is sure still...anyway...my family is so hyper-critical and my mom is very religious. If I somehow told her I think she would forever think of me as a bad person for having sex in the first place, and getting a "dirty" disease to boot. No way in hell!

I wont tell my mom because she'd just hate my husband for giving it to me. Even though he gave it to me via a dried up almost gone cold sore she'd just see it as he gave me something nasty and would never forgive him...I figure I dont need to her fogive him..it's something him and I have to deal with, therefor I dont need her to know. And yeah..she'd prolly tell everyone too. Not meaning to but she's a blabber mouth. My best friend does know...come to find out my best friend's sister contracted it in college from some guy who said he didnt know he had it. And a couple that my best friend hang out with both have it... and they got it the same way I did..a coldsore..passed to him via oral sex then passed back to her at some point. Small world.
