Anyone know they have herpes but test results are negative?
Question: Hi everyone, Has anyone out there gone through this situtation where a doctor has diagnosed herpes but your Western Blot tests come back totally negative? Any info on this type of situation would be great. Thanks, Laney. :?: Answer: i have a friend who was tested 7 times - each test came back negative. but each time her doctor looked at her lesions, he said she had hsv 2. so, yes. look at my post, i think it's called "test says negative, doctor says positive." in this forum. good luck! Answer: see thats pretty messed up :x Answer: Hi, Great. I'm in the same boat. I've had 2 Western blot tests and 3 EIA tests. All negative. However, one doctor has said I have H just going by the symptoms I describe. Others say I haven't. I get episodes all the time so I presume I do. Did your friend ever have her sores swabbed? If so, did anything come up? Is she still trying to get diagnosed or has she just resigned herself to the fact that she must have it? Thanks, Laney. Answer: I'm pretty sure that yes, she did have her sores swabbed. All she told me was that every test she's taken has come back negative, but every doctor has said she's positive by looking at her lesions. She was diagnosed a few years ago - had a very rough time with it. Was apparantly in the hospital and everything for it, too (which scared the shit out of me! It must be rare). But yes, she's pretty much resigned herself to the fact that she does have it. She lives her life as if she has herpes type 2. (She's also in a very serious relationship with a guy who completely accepts her and her disease, if that's any comfort). She takes it in stride now. In my opinion, no matter how accurate a test is proven to be, there are always exceptions and mistakes. What our bodies tell us is most important. Hers is telling her something's wrong, so she takes medication for each outbreak (has been OB free for 1 year), and takes lots of vitamins to stay in good health. Good luck! Let me know if you get any news. Maybe this is why they say doctors are "practicing" medicine... Answer: Hi JK84, Thanks for the info. I'm just glad to hear about someone who seems to be in the same situation as me. Whenever the doctors see the pimples they say it doesn't look like it, looks like a staph infection. I've had them swabbed twice and nothing. I'm pretty sure it's it though because of all the muscle aches, back pain, fever, nausea etc. I'm actually going to a specialist tomorrow, so I'll see what they say. So she told her boyfriend even though it's negative? Very brave. I'm hoping I find someone just as accepting. Sorry for all the questions, but this has effectively ruined my life for the past 2 years I get it so often and badly. Probably because I have no antibodies! Do you know how she has managed to stay OB free? I'm taking vitamins etc and Valtrex and I've also cut out chocolate, nuts, coffee and sugar but nothing seems to help. Is there anything specific she does to manage this? Thanks again. I appreciate it. Laney. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
