Could this be herpes???

Question:
Let me start from the beginning. I've been dating the same girl for almost 2 years now, with the exception of about 2 months last summer. During that 2 month break, I had protected sex (used a condom) with one other girl. About a month after my gf and I got back together, I noticed a small, what looked like a cut on my penis, the next day after having intercourse. The cut was located on the shaft of my penis from the top to about 1/3 of the way around on the left side. The cut (which sort of resembled a stretch mark) healed, but very slowly. It seem like everytime the penis would enlongate, it would start to tear open again. Not too long after it appeared to be completely healed, I was trying to use one of those nair for men to attempt to remove hair from my lower stomach, and accidentally got some on my penis. It immediately burned and the healed "cut" reopened, and a couple of smaller cuts of same type appeared. This took a while to heal. I used neosporin, which seem to help a lot. But, it was almost like the first cut. Every time the penis elongated, they seemed slightly tear. They finally healed up. About 3 weeks ago, I stayed at my parents' , and the next day a small what appeared to be a rash appeared on the bottom of my penis. It itched, so applied neosporin and hydrocorosone to it. Within about a day it was gone. I spent the night at my parents' again about 4 days ago. About 4 hours after I got out of the shower, the region where the cuts were located were kinda swelled and itched a lot. There are slight scars from the cuts. The scars seemed to be what was swelled and itchy. I applied neosporin and hydrocorozone again. Today, everything appears to be normal, except for the scars, of course.

Could this be herpes? Or some kind of skin irritation. I don't know. I suppose it could have been the soap at my parents causing an irritation. Any feed back would be greatly apprieated.

Thank You!!!

Hi,

I'm sorry to say but it does sound like it. To be sure go straight to your doctor when this happens again and also ask for a Western Blot test.

If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

Goodluck.

Thanks for the info! It's just strange though. I done some research on the web, and none of the pictures that I saw looked anything like this. And there were never any blisters or scabs that I have ever seen, or any pain (other than when the nair made contact).

Also I know that you said that I should go the the doctor next time this happens and get a Western Blot test. If I went to the doctor now, do you think that they would be able to tell with a blood test?

Thanks

Answer:
Hi,

With the blood test it takes a while for the serology to convert. I'm not exactly sure how long but it can be 6 weeks or more I think. As in it can take 6 weeks to develop antibodies to HSV 1 or HSV 2.

So, it's better to get the Western Blot test later if this time hasn't elapsed, but if you have symptoms now, GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW. They can only really do a culture of a sore or cut within the first 24 hours, before it begins healing. After this point there may not be enough virus contained in the sore and it can give a false negative result.

I hope all's okay.

Cheers,

Laney.
