possible herpes

Question:
Hi. Let me start with my main question, then I'll give you a brief history.

Are blisters always raised and obvious, or can you just see a small red mark in the skin?

My doctor thinks I have herpes because of what she called a "lesion." I have been experiences reoccuring (every few days) itch and irritation in the vulva area. Sometimes it gets so irritated it bleeds. I am also currently on estrogen treatment due to an unhealed episitomy. I am hoping this is really just another symptom of my apparent low levels of estrogen.

My sexual history is very limited. The only person other then my husband that I have had sex with was about 12 years ago. We were both very inexperienced virgins and always used condoms. I had "fooled around" with just a couple of guys after that and before my husband, but nothing too serious. No intercourse, and I can't even remember if oral sex was involved, mostly just some kissing and petting I guess you'd call it. My husband also had a VERY limited sexual history before me and used condoms in his one time he had sex. I understand in my history there were situations where this could have happend, but it seems very unlikely.

Any thoughts?

Answer:
I should add that I have sensitive skin anyway. I am always itchy all over, use "no dye" detergent, etc. I have an itch on my scalp/neck that I've had FOREVER(like over 2 years) that I think is an allergic reaction to something. It's been bothering me more lately. I did recently use a different fabric softner, but thought I'd rewashed all the clothes that I had washed in it. Hoping it's an allergy or the estrogen problem!

I am waiting for results of swab, and will have blood drawn on Monday.
