Daddy-O or amp

Question:
I cant ever seem to find a good tone for my guitar on either of these two, its always too muddy.
I have a Daddy-O distortion pedal and a 30w Crate amp and I regularly use distortion but people sometimes complain how its too muddy or you cant really hear the guitar at all or its just a jumble of sounds that doesnt sound like much......
How do I get a good and clear distortion effect on my guitar with what I have?
Answer:
Get a new amp for sure.

Im on a budget for now though so I need to find another way

Well I guess there's nothing you can do except for tweaking your settings a bit, adjust the height of your pickups...
Answer:
turn down gain, turn up level, add some mids.
Answer:
^ +1 (though after turning down the gain and adding the mids, you might not even need to turn up the level...)
Answer:
Muddy means it is one of several things, too much gain (likely culprit), too little treble, too much bass. Above suggestions are good.
And to further add to the pedal/amp question, assuming that it is one of the solid state amps, then changing pedals isn't going to do anything to help your sound. The best solution is to save up (as long as is needed) and get a good amp.
Answer:
Crate SS combo distotion is just inherently disgusting.
Mids probably need a good boost in your situation, and maybe the answer is a better distortion pedal. Your pedal could be too fuzzy of a distortion.
Answer:
+1 on the turning down the gain & adding some mids. I'm guessing the daddy-o is a better distortion than the amp distortion, so you might want to just use that and use the eq on the amp to get it sounding clear. Also, your guitar could be partially to blame. I know it's not those Monster Cables .

Which Crate amp do you have? If you have one of the 30 watt Class A tube amps it's not the amps fault your sound is muddy.....
