Cabinets

Question:
ok im getting $500 and am looking to upgrade my cabinet. i have a G100R CD Marshall head. i am willing to save up more money if i need to. Heres the cabs ive looked on the internet. btw these are all 4X12s
Vox V412
Crate G412 100W
Marshall AVT412 200W
Orange 4X12 cabinet
Fender FM412
Marshall 1960A
Marshall MG412
I play stuff like Norma Jean and Haste The Day to give you an idea of what kind of sound i want.
Answer:
well, the Marshall 1960A and the Orange are probably the best from that crop. the Vox could be pretty good too.
a better couple of questions. What's your current cabinet? have you thought about buying a different head to change your sound? while the cabinet definitely affects the sound, the amp is going to be the core of tone.
oh and guitar mods...my forum (amps and accessories) longs for this post.
Answer:
Yes, this should be in amps.
whoooooooosh
Answer:
I'm also going to say that the Marshall 1960A would be the cab that would be the best. But what do you not like about your current sound?
Answer:
I think you should go with a Splawn 4x12. They're amazing, and I just happen to have one for sale. You'd have to save up a little more money, but I'd be willing to sell to you. The only reason I'm selling is because I have a 2x12 combo now and no longer need a 4x12. I really hate to see it go, but I need the money. If you're interested, PM me.
But, aside from my short bit of spam, yeah I'd definitly recommend Splawn, even if you don't get it from me. Check out his website. He custom makes them just for you. If you're going to go with a more mass made cab, I'd check out Orange or maybe Mesa Boogie. If you're on a more tight budget, I'd check out the Marshall 1960A or an Avatar. But seriously, all shameless spam aside, I'd save up for a Splawn. You'll never look back. Much better made than just about anything else out there.
Answer:
1. DUH it shoulda been in amps.
2. i play with a Legion Sound 4X12
3. its not that i dont like the sound but i think that a higher quality cabinet would compliment my sound more.
4. I would NEVER get rid of my marshall head. its hilarious. its 100W @ 4 ohms and my cabinet is 8 ohms. so its not putting out a full 100. yet my little brother has a full stack bass setup with a 500W trace elliot and i still smoke him in loudness. its a beast.
5. the only way i know of orange is underoath. im kinda looking for that one brand noone knows about but they make the best stuff. ill definitely check out splawn. tell me more about that cab you're selling.
Answer:
I fixed the link in my post. So go here http://www.splawnguitars.com/custenclos.htm
They're very well made with the best materials. I've talked with the guy who makes them, Scott, and he tells me that they don't use finger joints, which are used in cabs like Marshall, because he's found some where they are coming apart. The way he makes them, this will never happen. He uses 3/4" 13 ply baltic birch plywood, and the grill filters just the right amount of highs. Believe me, if you're upgrading from a lesser quality cab, you'll definitly be able to tell the difference. I upgraded from a really crappy 4x12 to the Splawn, and I was blown away by the difference. You'll hear every frequancy sing. I really wish I didn't have to sell it because I love it so much, and I've been procrastinating real bad, but I need the money. PM me if you're really interested. I'm willing to let it go for $650 + shipping (which will probably be a beast), and that is a great deal considering they sell for $800 new with Celestion speakers (which is what I have in mine, Celestion G12H80 speakers to be exact). Let me know.

Given the cab that you have, I would definitely say you'd get a sound improvement with an upgrade. You might check your local www.craigslist.org listing for some good deals, or een check your local thrift stores. I just found a beat to death Mesa/Boogie 4x12" cabinet (one of the older, metal grill ones) for a whopping $45. the top speakers are Celestion Custom 90s, and the bottom ones are unlabeled, but look like Peaveys to me (they may have been replacements). One of the speakers is torn, but so far I haven't noticed it, and when i eventually have to replace that speaker i'll still have an awesome cab for about $125.
Answer:
sorry guys. thanks for all your input but it has been brought to my attention by a fellow bandmate that we need a new PA mixer badly. but i WILL keep this in mind when i have more moolah.
Answer:

Heehee! apparently i don't get the joke...haha..
that being said, i always hear about gigging bands needing PAs but i've never really understood why...mostly because my band's been playing for a year and only needed one once, and in that instance another band let us use theirs.
Answer:
I don't get it either. Most clubs have their own, at least the ones that are worth playing. I've been in at least one band for 5 years and have never needed a PA, but I guess things are probably different.

Answer:
its just that we want a PA system where we mic the drums and instruments at practice so we get used to it. our last gig was a DISASTER and since then we went back to the drawing board and finally found our "sound", besides being able to do a garage show once in awhile isnt so bad. gets our name out. people cant understand the vocals through our system we have now. yeah and about that compressor.........GEEZ LOUISE i coulda smacked the guy at sam ash. telling me to buy a piece of equipment i didnt need at all.
