I know about Traynors because I have a YCV40 - 40 watts with a single 12" and I really like it. I would recommend them solely on my experience with it, but have not compared them with Carvin. A couple things not related to the sound that are nice are their 2 year warranty to replace or fix for any reason (even if you break it) and the fact that it is auto-biasing when you change your power tubes. PianoMan has one too that he has praised.
Answer:
I use the YCV 20 in church every Sunday..Class A tube for great sound. Two channel with a great overdrive.Light weight and small size. Mike it into the house sound system. Plenty of power for sancuary use..great little amp..
Answer:
eh.... who told you it was class a?

Answer:
I just looked on the manufacturers website and found this:
"The YCV20 is a 'Class A' power amplifier is driven by three Sovtek 12AX7A''s and two EL84's."
Here's the link: http://www.yorkville.com/products.as...cat=18&type=32
So the manufacturer is saying that.

So the manufacturer is saying that. Man, after reading that, I searched literally for about 30 mins. to find this really good link explaining true Class A and how it differentiates from Class AB, which is what the traynor is by default since it has two power tubes, save a boutique brand or two. Raner, you know what link I'm talking about? anyone?

Answer:
Traynors rock. Period.
Nice blend of Fender and Marshall sounds but still unique. Not too expensive. Best waranty in the business.
Answer:
How good is the 2nd channel on the YCV20? Heavy, light, medium, heavier?
Answer:
I'm not sure about the YCV20 sounds in relation to the 40's, but I will tell you what I know. First, by second channel I assume you mean the gain channel. The second channel on Traynors is actually the clean channel. Anyway, I would say the distortion is a medium, maybe a bit higher. As long as you don't want to do any hard rock or metal you should be fine. The store owner I bought it from said that the amount of gain you get at max is roughly equal to a 3-4 on a Mesa Boogie amp.
Answer:
Medium is pretty good for me. Can it dial out Nirvana, old school Skillet, maybe some Audio A? Thanks.
Answer:
I dunno about the Nirvana (just because I haven't heard them enough to know) but I play a bunch of Audio A and it sounds great. The Skillet I don't think would work. Again I haven't heard enough to know, but it can't get up to as high a level of distortion as they go in some songs.
Answer:
Their older stuff (especially before Alien Youth) didn't have that much disortion on the guitars. I didn't think it would be able to do Collides disortion, but not many amps can. I was wondering more HYILYS and the self-titled distortion. If it can do those it can definatley do Nirvana.
