I had an idea!

Question:
Hey, has anybody here ever built their own speaker cab???? I've been researching it a little and i think that's what i'm gonna do, because i can get the same speakers as the Marshall 1960a 4x12 cab and build it myself for less than half the price... the only thing is i don't know the dimensions i want to use, i'm gonna make a sealed cab, use 4 vintage celestion 12's bridged to 4ohms, build it out of 1 inch MDF board, but i don't know how to calculate the Qtc, i wanna use a Qtc around .9 or so.. definately more than .707 and less than a 1.0... and i play a lot of heavey music so a higher number would be what i'm looking for... i'm open to any suggestions... i might even change the speakers i'm gonna use, so any suggestions on that as well... i'm gonna use locking hardware, and caulk seal it... and i also need amp suggestions, i'm thinking for the time being i'm gonna stick with a peavey, cause i'm poor... i need a lot of gain, and a lot of volume, and enough tone so the sound doesn't suck too terribly for a local band, and it should be able to hold 4 ohms... soo.... taking all suggestions...
Answer:
suggestion #1: don't use MDF.
suggestion #2: it costs about as much to build a cab as to buy one from carvin or ?avatar cabs? (someone help me out here)
Answer:
ummm scratch that on the celestion speakers... i can get speakers for cheaper, just not sure on the brand yet, eminence, maybe, or JBL, and everywhere i have read says use mdf, or birch covered plywood
Answer:
update.. i looked at carvin, and it was more expensive than this guy said he built a 4x12 cab, he's a professional luthier take a look at his site.. http://www.duncanamps.com/technical/speaker_cab.html
also update... i'm thinking a 2x12 would be better and lighter for what i'm doing...
Answer:
Add me to the cab builing club. I already have some speakers, from a vintage set of Marantz stero speakers. Although I want to build the speakers into model jet engine cowlings.
Answer:
well, that's an idea... i have no idea how you are going to pull it off, but would love to see some pics when you finish it...
