Effects help

Question:
Ive been wanting to get some effects for a while now. I was looking through musicians firend and saw this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...cts?sku=150183 It looks like something i would want to buy. Im wondering whether or not it has some good effects if anyone has it or has used it... Im also wondering if it is better to buy individual petals, like individual wah or delay or to buy an "all in one" type of deal. I have little experience with effects. Please Help.
Answer:
There are some other threads on single vs. multi effects, so I would read those. Otherwise...
When I first started playing electric guitar again (after several years) I got the RP100 (the one you're looking at minus the expression pedal). In general, the effects are okay, some good, some not so good. What the RP100 did for me, though, was give me an introductory course in what all of the different effects do. You can play around with all of the stuff in it and then, as you get better and as you identify what effects you like more, you can get higher quality stand alone effects.
Please note that if you are going to be doing any kind of serious public performance (gigging, leading worship) you are probably going to want to step up in quality from the RP200. Also, because of its editing process, and because when you change from one patch to the next it skips out for a split second, I personally found individual stompboxes much easier to use for a live setting (although I know many people use better-quality multis, like the POD xt Live and the Digitech GNX series, for live settings).
In general, I would say that if you are not very familiar with using effects, and don't foresee regular public playing in the near future, the RP-series is one option to consider.
Answer:
I started with to RP series pedals before I started going to single. I like single better cause I can control it more but if this is your first i would go multi effects casue you get a little bit of everything so you learn how to change the settings to get your sound. There great but like I said you get a "little" of everything. So distortion or compresion it will be there but not as well or as wide of a range as a stompbox one would. But if its your first I would say go multi effects.
Answer:
hey i own that pedal.
it's not bad per say but it's all what you are needing and what you can pay for
it's a relitively cheap pedal but can do some major tone sucking if you are a tone fenatic like me. as well you cant change whether an effect is on or off in a patch. it's either all of what is preset or all of what is on the next preset. not just the distortion from preset A. the expression can change parameters but it's nothing great. it's also a bit noisy (hum wise)
i dont use it that much cause i have switched over to single stomp boxes so i can control a drive or phaser without having to switch presets. personnally i cannot recoment it because i dont like it that much but you can get some good beginner sounds out of it
as far as all multi fx pedals go, personally i'd rather have two good stompboxes rather than a boss gt8 (yess i have used one)
i know i'ts a big investment but seriously go the non multi way. you get better control and it looks cooler on stage
Answer:
If you have no idea what specific effects you want, then chances are, you don't need any effects. Play a good guitar, and a good amp, and then if you need effects, get high quality single stompboxes. Anything else is a trade-off meant to sucker young guitarists into buying a ton of sub-quality effects in a single unit. It's quality vs. quantity, and I'm sure you could agree with me that quality is what matters.
I play most often with no pedals, just my amp and guitar. I'm quite experienced, and I know that there aren't any pedals that anyone "needs".
Answer:
Multi effects are a great way to get into becoming familiar with the world of guitar effects, especially if you don't know what effects you want. For about the same price you may want to look into something like the ZOOM G2.1u http://www.zzounds.com/item--ZOMG21U better processing, expression pedal, USB interface for recording. I think something like this would serve you much more than just jumping into single effects right away. Eventually yes, you will want to invest in individual effects that serve your needs better than what you would have with a multi effects, but how will you know what you want if you haven't experienced it yourself.
A cheaper way to go about this is to annoy your local music store employees and play all the effects there so you can get an idea of what you might use. You won't have as much relaxed time with it, but it only costs gas.
