Self-imposed effects handicaps

Question:
I've done that with amps (An AC15 or humbucker neck pickup muddies pretty bad sometimes, so I had to rely more on lead work when using it) and some times I've taken my delay or wah from the chain.
Have you ever deprived yourself of an effect to see how you play without it?
Answer:
I'm crap without my delay. One day I might get brave enough to pull it from the chain while playing in church service. But I doubt it

Answer:
Recently I took a week and refused to play with any effects whatsoever. It was an interesting experiment that made me realize a few things. First, i'm not a huge sound of my Traynor without some compression and external overdrive (of the TS9 variety). Second, I could stand to get better at fretting/picking accuracy, as well as learn to use the pick more instead of relying on hammer-ons.
Answer:
I got a ts9dx. So I quit playing my rp300a and have only been using my amp and ts9. Used that set up at church sunday it was amazin everyone (mostly the guitar palyers) were like "dude that sounds so good what are you using" and "did you just get better in like the last 2 weeks". So not having effects is great cuase I'm startin to learn the essence of the clean amp and im really feeling my guitar and not the effect.
Answer:
I tried taking away my effects once... I soon realized that I didn't have any to take away.
Answer:
I don't need to do that because I only use my effects when I see a need for them. I don't put them in my chain by default.
Answer:
I have ost of my stuff in my chain (exept my 100% crud wah) and I could stand to take out almost everything, with me getting the footswitch for my amp.
Answer:
Recovered effects addict here I did the Midi rig thang for a couple of years. I had a couple of Rocktron rack rigs a Voo-Doo Valve and a Cameleon. After a little while I got hooked and just used the midi Pedal for all my changes in tone --- .It took YEARS to get my dynamics back to where they are now !! Now days it's a guitar tube amp a little delay and a Wah and the delay and wah are only used spairingly >
Answer:
meh, I did that for the first ten years of playing before I even added a wah pedal. So I can get rid of all of my pedals and I still sound like me, or I can play through 20 effects at once and I still sound like myself.
Answer:
I don't use effects at all. :P Except Reverb.. BUt it doesn't count. . Actually.. I don't think I'd like my guitar's sound without reverb.
Answer:
This is actually one of the best ideas ever.
there's alot of people who come on the forum and say, "i just got such and such guitar and amp and now I need some effects" but they don't even know what effects they want or even how to EQ their own amp. I know that personally I feel comfortable playing with a dozen effects or no effects. it's all about figuring out a context and not allowing yourself to get anchored down with a certain effect.
Answer:
not allowing yourself to get anchored down with a certain effect.
The Edge seems pretty anchored to his delays...

Answer:
The Edge has also been playing guitar for many years, and has developed his own style quite thouroughly. While it would lack that sound, i'm sure he would still sound very much like The Edge without delay as he does using it.

Very Very True.
I think Phil Keagy has a great acoustic tone. One of those tones you notice from someone playing.
Theres a bunch of electric guitarist I could name but It would be me reconzing and might not be the same for anyone else at all.
