Dynamic Distortion Pedals

Question:
I'm looking for a dynamic, versitile distortion pedal I can use to go direct into a sound system. I currently use a Line6 Uber Metal, which is very dynamic and expresive, but not very versitile. Its models are metal, heavier than metal and heavier than metal about to blow your cab. They all have a spot I can tweak to to find a mild distorted sound, but its a pain and very detailed and changes with your venue, so you can preset the nobs, etc.
The thing I like about it is when I find the right spot a soft brushing of the strings yields a nearly clean, somewhat compressed sound and then it varies up to a full distort when you pick hard. I love that kind of dynamic expression and ti is very rare in digital equipment.
Well, I want something that retains the dynamics, but alows me a more versitile sound with out 10 minutes of tweeking. I want a heavy distortion, like my uber metal currently does, but I also want a lighter more classic distortion as well. Any ideas.
I've looked at the tube screamer which I hear is fairly dynamic and responsive, but with only it I wont get the high gain sounds I like as well. Im thinking about a jekyll and hyde, but have never played one. Are they dynamic? Hopeing someone can help me out. If you can record a clip of the dynamic behavior of the J&H I would be very gratefull. Thanks!!
Answer:
I don't think there are very many OD/DS pedals that will go direct to the board

To be exact, not very many that would do it very well. You could go direct with any pedal.
Mr. Drew Neal, it sounds like you want more of a heavy blues overdrive or something, rather than a full blown distortion. What amp are you using?

From what it sounds like, I don't don't think he is using an amp

Yup, I go direct into a Samson power amp/mixer PA. I actualy run my uber medal into a digitech multi effects box, as the digitech has fairly good effects, just lousy amp models.

Well I need something that does both. Thats the problem. What I have now only does half of what I am looking for.

Anyone every try a tube screamer direct? Just curious. Can someone record a clip of it direct, just strumming softly and than hard? I may be able to use it to OD my digitech models for my high gain stuff and use the TS for the mild stuff.
Answer:
it sounds like everything you're doing would sound terrible. A Distortion box to a DI to the house?! gross.

If you don't want to buy an amp, look into a rack-mounted guitar pre-amp. Something like this would probably work admirably: http://www.carvin.com/products/singl...=SX300R&CID=SX

even that straight to the house wouldn't sound so good. I would recommend your pedal's amp modeling above anything else you've done so far

Actualy the Uber metal works great direct. I only have 2 issues with it.
1: It takes a few minutes to dial in a mild distortion.
2: It has a lot of fuzz/breakup artifacts in its distortion, even at medium levels. Now this is way cool for some stuff, but I need a little more versitility.
Answer:
Get a Line-6 distortion modeller or POD.
Answer:
why can't you use an amp?
Answer:
Instead of trying to find something that does both, why don't you get 2 pedals?

Can buying more pedals ever really be a solution?
Answer:
In this case, yes.
