25 tube watts loud enough for band/worship?
Question: I am considering grabbing a peavey bravo, but it since it is only 25 watts, I was just wondering if it could hold it's own with either a band or about worship (about 200 people. I assume it coud, but I don't have any experiance with all tube amps) Answer: Without hearing it, I'm going to blindly say yes, doubly so if you can mic it and run it through the PA. Answer: Yeah, on sundays I can mic it (and plan on it) Answer: Oh yeah, I gigged with my Bravo in a couple configs in the past, even a couple times with the stock speaker. The last time was back in November for a fill in gig with some old bandmates, a medium loud drummer. I used my Frankenpeavey (Bravo) in the 2x12 with one efficient speaker and one on the low end of efficiency, had it attenuated at least 3db (equivalent of half the power/watts) or more; it was plenty loud for the stage, it was mic'd. Answer: So from what I understand, you basicly just put your bravo in a 2x12 cabnet? any pics ?(or recordings ) Answer: Yep, it was an old Peavey Renoun - SS amp from the 80's. A friend gave it to me. Unlike most Peavey stuff, its made of plywood, not particle board. The 2 knobs on the right are L-Pad power attenuators, 1 is for each speaker - that way I can control the mix of the 2, even mute one all the way for lowest volume. Right now I have 2 very efficient spkrs in it, a Weber Blue Dog, and a Mojotone V-30 clone. In my house, its so loud you'd think it was a Fender Twin. I did recently get my 1x12 (not the stock speaker) hooked up to record, I'll try to get some clips of it here one of these days. I can't wiat for thosze clips (when you can get around to it) Answer: For most worship circles AND the fact that you're mic'ing it you could get away with MUCH less than 25 watts. 5 to 10 would probably even be plenty, but you would have to rely on stage monitors a bit more with that to hear on louder songs I might imagine. Answer: I use a Laney LC30ii 30 watt - 4 x EL84s. It sits with clean volume at 2. It is plenty loud enough. John Answer: Will 25 watts be loud enough. Well lets think about. Switchfoot use a Vox which is 33 watts, Top Hat amps which are 35, and Bad Cat amps which are 35. Brad Paisley used amps that are 30 to 45 watts and he does stadiums. So yeah i think you be good. Though this guys just mic'em. Answer: haha, through out that whole post I was just thinking, "but they just mic them." . Yeah, I think... er.... know that it will be fine. now if I can only talk my mom into driving me to ohio... The tube sound will give it a fuller, richer sound, but Tube watts and Solid-State watts are the same kind of watts. I use a 15 watt Fender for a church Youth Group, it works just fine. 25 Watts should easily do the job. Answer: I would fourth all this is say over 15 watts tube might even be a little loud. I would never, ever use 30 watts on stage if I expected to crank it and get a good tone. Only in a very big venue. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
