What do you think of my amp?

Question:
If all you are going to do is bash solid state amps, please leave.
I am currently playing through a Marshall MG100HDFX (mg412 cab)
it is a solid state amp with a circuit which Marshall claims to simulate a tube amp
I bought this amp because i had always dreamed of a stack amp and i dont have the money to buy a stack tube amp. My question, what do you think of the amp?
by the way theres a poll if you want to participate

My question is, why did you buy a half stack? Because 4 speakers is cool? I would have invested the money in a good tube combo if I were you...

Dream =/= need.
Anyway, there was a guy playing one in GC once and it sounded pretty good. I've never played on personally though.
Answer:
it was also used and i got a good deal
Answer:
Well that's good. How much was it? Do you have some soundclips?

I paid 802.70 CAD for the head and cab together. (correct me if my math is bad) thats 15% sales tax so $698 CAD total for price tag. i forget the individual prices. i dont have a good quality mic and i'm not playing in the sactuary (where the recording computer is) so the best i can do is use my mp3 player to record it i'll try with the internal mic and hooking it up to the line out on my amp. i'll post again when i have an audio clip.

I paid a very small amount for an all tube rack. Very capable of pushing a stack. To be honest, every solid state manufacturer will say their amp emulates tubes. Its generally bunk though. I have played it, wasn't my thing.
If you want a tube head, those can be had much cheaper than you think used. Much cheaper.

Yep, pretty much.

Yeah, a good bit cheaper than what you got your Marshall for.
MTS... $350...

Heya,
I knew I had a lighter around here somewhere...

That was an oddly biased poll. I said "It's alright" mainly because.. I don't like the amp, but I also don't hate it becuase it's solid state.
Answer:
jmjlai, I'm not sure why you're so paranoid about tube vs. solid state. People here like solid state. Almost every tube player can think of several solid state amps that really impressed them.
Even if this was a tube setup, I wouldn't be impressed, because I think a stack is excessive in almost every application.

listen i'm not out to impress people with my amp cause theres a lot of better amps out there. as well good tube amps use a crap load of tubes and (which can be expensive to replace)
I want to know if other guitar players like the overall sound and tone of the amp compared to other solid state because if guitarists are satisfied with an amp, chances are the audience will be too
Eventually i would like to get a tube amp but i dont want to get a cheap one. something like a mesa or somthing. however that is in the far future

-Nick agreed...I own one of them, an Acoustic 150.
That being said, I've heard various amps up and down the Marshall MG line. From the little MG15 to the MG100DFX head and combos. I played through a G80RCD that I borrowed from a friend of mine for awhile. As far as tone goes in generally, I've never been pleased with the Marshall MG series. the MG series, like the Fender FM series is generally built for the beginning to intermediate guitarist on a strict budget, who hasn't discovered the beauty of shopping used. The tone is passable, but on the whole, it's nothing amazing. In fact, I'd say it's downright generic tone. For some people this is fine, as it doesn't seem that noticeable.
Just to give you an idea, you spent the equivalent of $600 USD (actually $596) on your amp. I don't know if these are more expensive in Canada, but in the US, that's how much I would expect to see someone paying for this amp and cab brand new at Guitar Center (the US guitar superstore). With a budget of $600 I could throw together a decent used tube half stack. I sold my Mesa Boogie cabinet (which I guarantee would blow away your Marshall cab) for $175...I've seen them for less than $250 often. Finding a 50W+ tube head for $350...(to keep this under the $600 you spent) wouldn't be hard...the Carvin MTS head goes for that...or you could take a Fender Hot Rod combo (which will go for under $350 used) and run the speaker out to the cabinet...or convert the chassis into it's own head!
I'm not trying to be really harsh on this or anything. I'm just saying, "hey look at what else is out there in the world of used goods"

It depends on what you mean by "cheap". If you mean cheap as in doesn't cost much, my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is a 40 watt tube combo I bought for $350, lightly used. I'm pretty sure it's as loud as your setup. It's not very high-gain, but you could run a pedal through it if you wanted that. The tubes are 5 years old, and still sound good (it wasn't used much until I bought it). I've bumped it around good and never broken a tube.
