J&H vs. RK modded DS-1?
Question: I have just been wandering around Rober keeley and have wondered if the modded DS-1 is what I really want. It just seems more of what I want. Anybody have any comments on the modded DS-1 or comments in general? Answer: "It just seems more of what I want" please explain. as for comparing the silver J&H v.s. the indyguitarist modded ds-1, basically the ds-1 and hyde side of the J&H are very similar. they both give the hi-gain plexi distortion sound. in my opinion, the difference isn't dramatic enough to spend the time and energy to buy a ds-1 and sell the j&h. i do have to admit though, indyguitarist mods make pedals come ALIVE. therefore, indy ds-1 = indy j&h > stock silver j&h i would suggest that if you just want to try something new and for the better, get your j&h modded by indyguitarsist. Answer: i've heard a lot of good things about both pedals, but from what i've learned i firmly belive, that in my case at least, that money would be put to better use in saving for a good amp. however, i don't know that much about your amp, so this might not apply to you. Answer: It seems more of what I want... I have been looking for the right distorted tone (arn't we all) and after tweeking like a mad troll I can't find anything that is what I want. I can find good tones, just not wh at I am looking for. I am still trying to fall in love with the J&H again, but it hasn't been succsessful. I was kist thinking that since they said "it gives more of that marshall tube tone" that would maybe be what I want. I am getting a peavey valveking soon though so that might take care of it. I won't buy anything untill I get that though. Answer: Originally Posted by jamforchrist123 I am getting a peavey valveking soon though so that might take care of it. If you still can't find that sound you're looking for after that, then you can try for another pedal. Answer: I do have a decent amp. Its just not to my liking. Answer: ^^Then It's not a decent palette to work with, is it? Point is, amp comes first...add on's later. As for the DS-1, Robert Keeley does some excellent mods, but IMO, there's only so much you can do with a DS-1. As for what was advertised, "Marshall tube tone" can be(and is) plastered on many a stompbox description. If you're really looking for accurate Marshall replication try the Menatone King of the Britains, or the Fulltone OCD. The new Tonebone Plexitube looks yummy too.
