Peavey Valveking Head (and a question about Speaker Configurations)

Question:
Played it a couple of nights ago with my new guitar (which I have yet to make a thread on) and it sounded simply amazing. I tried the combos for quite a bit a while back and I just could not get my self to like them (way, way too fuzzy gain for my tastes).
I played this one through a 1960A cab and I was simply blown away by the tone of the thing, cleans too! anyone else have experience with the head? What did you think of it?
My question about speaker configs:
Has anyone noticed a difference in the characteristics of your distortion when played through different speaker cabs? I've noticed a huge difference with heads played through 4x10s, 2x12s, 1x12, and 4x12s. Namely, the smaller or lesser numbers of speakers, the more compressed the distortion seems. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

I'm pretty happy with my 112 - I really haven't noticed that the gain is too fuzzy. I haven't played with the gain past 9 o'clock and I also put in a set of used groove tubes preamp tubes, so maybe that is making a difference. I am really curious to try it through a cab but I haven't had any oppurtunity to do so where it would make sense, and I don't have a cab I've been considering building a 2x12 for fun though. For the price I think they are great amps - now we'll see how the chinese construction holds up
Answer:
I am really considering getting one of these. WHat are some ups and downs of the amp?
Answer:
I haven't really found any downs of the Peavey Valveking. It's great for all types of music.
Answer:
Thats what I wan't, and I also heard it has overdrive for almost anything.

Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? I know what yu're talkign about completely. I'm guessing this has to do with the physics of sound and the interactions between the sound waves. I know that when I ran my HRDlx through the Mesa cab before I sold it, it sound so full and had a completely different tonality to it.

Don't have time

Well guys, I'm seriously considering purchasing this head, given a few more hours at least of play time on one (and considering the absolutely beautiful JCM 800 I've been practicing and recording with is about to go back to its original owner). Thoughts?

Thoughts? i get the impression you already have a cab to run it through...I'd really like to test out a VK (combo or head) but I haven't gone to my local Peavey dealer and I haven't seen anyone else with them yet. That being said, one of the beauties of a head/cab setup is that the speakers make a huge tonal difference (something you seem to have experience with). while a better 1x12" speaker could improve the tone of the combo, a single 12 isn't going to replicate the raw power of a 4x12" cab...of course if volume is a consideration...
Answer:
exactly. Yea, I still haven't spent as much time with the combos as I'd like, but from what I have played of them, they were mediocre in my opinion, but when I played the head in George's through a 1960 cab, I was floored at the tone of the thing. In practice/recordings/live, I'd be using an avatar 2x12, or an orange 2x12.
