Cool. I know they're a little different, but I love my Galaxie 10 One mod I did was to put a JJ 6V6 power tube in - it really made an improvement in tone. It was very harsh and brittle sounding before.
Answer:
Very good decision, IMO, they take effects very well. There's a very in depth thread in the GuitarGeek forums about this amp if you need information/mods/etc.
Answer:
yeah, I have read about them, played them, and I probably will perform one or two mods. (removing the attenuation on the input, the grounding mod, and maybe the speaker out mod.)
Answer:
sweet
Answer:
Yeah, I've done half of the grounding Mod, done the input attenuation mod, and the second attenuation mod (actually, I have a switch to give me higher volume if I want it). I will add a couple of stronger filter caps as soon as I buy some, and I plan on raising the input impedance. Eventually I will add a second speaker out for an 8 ohm cab. I also am conidering building in an attenuator.
These things are so great (and inexpensive) that I bought two to run them in stereo.

How much did the mods change?
Answer:
well, there's a definite boost in volume when I flip the switch, and the sound over all is more open as far as I remember. There's still a noticeable 60 cycle hum when I'm playing it quietly, but after a while, it either goes away, or I just can't hear it because I get used to it. Since I haven't done any filtering yet the 120hz hum is still there, but I expect most of that to clean up when I add the caps. Finally, another mod site I found said that due to the board layout there's some cross talk that causes some noise, but fixing that doesn't seem too dificult.

Mine sounded pretty clean as far as hum... The whole gain mods concern me as I like its low gain aspect, though it could use a touch more...
Answer:
Still very low gain, just a higher volume. mayb ea touch less head room since you'll be driving the tubes harder.
have you brought it home yet? when I played it at guitar center I didn't really notice much hum either, but when I got it home it was kind of bad.

yeah its in the back seat of the car. However, it seems to be one of the later ones with less hum.
Answer:
It does have a bit of hum. I am going to do the ground mods as soon as possible. I like it though, except for the tube retainer springs. I pulled those off cause they make a weird sound when you crank it.
I may be adding a baby attenuator to it as well... as sad as this is on a 5 watt amp.
Answer:
They get loud though, 5 watts is plenty in an apartment. more than plenty actually.
When you take it all apart and work on it, would you mind taking some pictures so I could compare it to mine? If it's different, you would actually have the third release of this amp circuit I think...
Answer:
Do you know if there is an effects loop mod?

There have been a couple people talking about adding an effects loop on the guitargeek forums, but I don't think anyone has done it yet. Though it should be relatively simple, just find someplace between the preamp and poweramp to add it in.....oh, and try not to shock yourself to death....
