Reliable and durable guitar effects?

Question:
Hello everyone.
I have a question how reliable and durable are the multiply or single guitar effects made by brand names like Boss, Digitech, Line 6, Vox…etc. Also, how many years will it be use to you?
Any opinions?
Answer:
alot of the longevity issues of pedals is determined by how well you care for them.
My old Dunlop Crybaby died suddenly...the jacks for kinda bleh.
My Jekyll and HYde had some issues that were resolved by emailing tech support.
My Boss TU-2 has some issues that were resolved by tightening one of the jacks

Well most of those pedals are made of metal, except I think the Line 6's are a hard plastic? Effects companies should build all their pedals in steel or aluminum cases, heh. My Barber Tone Press is handbuilt, and built like a tank.

The Line 6 Tonecore pedals are metal-cased, 3-pound beasts. You can't break 'em even if you wanted to.

You sure about the ToneCore's, (aka Echo Park)? I thought when I was trying one out it was made of plastic..
Answer:
ya, when I tried one out at media center, they seemed like cheap plastic.
Answer:
no, line 6 is metal. my dl-4 is solid metal
Answer:
I'm talking about the single pedals. I can't find anywhere if they are plastic or metal, most likely are metal though.
Have you seen Line6's new thing, the modules? Buy a few modules and you can replace each one with the other in the chassis! Cool!

Answer:
Well that's the first time I personally saw/heard about them.

What's wrong with plastic? Okay, maybe it might crack, that's the obvious. But, if it sounds good and works well otherwise, is it any less a good pedal? Would you not buy it if it was plastic? To me, it's more likely that switches, pots or input/output jacks will fail. In Steve's examples, none of his problems involved the exteriors.

I always hear people scoff at the Dano mini's for being plastic...but mine have worked fine...probably because I step on them...i don't try to smash them.

I poke my pedals with a big toe, most of the time I play I am barefoot.
