which one do I choose?!
Question: Hey everybody, I've been looking at some amps and I'm really set on This one . But I was looking on musiciansfriend.com and saw....this . I have read tons of reviews on both harmony central and on musiciansfriend and a lot of other websites, and pretty much all of them say that the 210 is a great amp. But then I saw the 212 refurb and it's cheaper, I don't know which one I should get or if I should even consider the 212 since it's a refurb. So I would like your oppinion on this situation. I haven't been able to play either of these but I plan on it pretty soon, and I will definately play them before I buy! Thanks for your help, Bo Answer: Well, the refurb means that the amp wasn't originally up to spec (had slight problems in the wiring, tears in the tolex, etc.) and was brought back to the factory to be repaired, then sent back out. The 2x10" is 30w x 2 and the 2x12" is 60w x 2. 30w is already insanely loud, and it is essentially running 2 30w power amps. Trust me, you will never need to use all of that volume. The 60w x 2 would be much more than you'd need. Plus, the 210 is already big and bulky enough. 210 Specs: * 24"W x 18-3/4"H x 10"D * 40.1 lbs. 212 Specs: Specifications: * 28"W x 19-1/2"H x 10"D * 53 lbs. Finally, I know someone that has one(210), and I'm not impressed with the tone. The cleans were ok, but the the distortion was seriously lacking. Sure, the amp had a tone of features that were nice (line outs, effects loops, etc, etc), but I wouldn't buy it simply because of the tone that comes from it. When I was looking at a new amp, I was looking at buying a Behringer just like this... but I'm glad I didn't buy this one. I've heard good things about their bass amps and their keyboard amps, but guitar; I would stay away. So, what are you looking for in an amp and what will you be using it for? I know what you're saying about the the size and the fact that I wouldn't really need the volume, but you have to consider the fact that it's cheaper and that there will be times that I'm going to be playing where I won't be able to mic the amp. But yes, the 210 would probable be plenty loud for what I'll be using it for. Originally Posted by tht00 Finally, I know someone that has one(210), and I'm not impressed with the tone. First of all, my budget is $200 or less(yes I know that you don't really have a very big selection of good amps in that range) I need nice clear cleans, but I need it to have a good sound distorted too. I would like to get an all tube amp, but I can't find any for my price range. I need something small enough to practice with in my room but big enough to us at a church or something without a mic on the amp. (there are some times that I play outdoors where I wouldn't have a pa or anything) I'm not looking for any certain size or anything. I just need what I have stated above for 200 or less. I've heard a lot of good things about the roland cube's but I have also heard some bad too. So just give me your opinion and we'll go from there. Thanks, Bo Answer: I just thought of something else..... I would really really like having a footswitch but if it doesn't have a footswitch it's not the end of the world or anything. I've even used it for winter percussion (it takes some power to have enough volume to be heard over a drumline), and there was no issue. I never had to turn the volume over 1/2 on the master control. Thanks, Bo If I were you, I'd check out: Vox Valvetronix AD15VT: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...base_id/112940 Roland cubes: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/480022/ Peavey Transtube: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/481372/ http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/481370/ All of those that I posted are under $200, and they are all modeling amps (like the Beringer)... I have experience with the Vox (I have the AD30VT) and its a very nice amp with good models (good cleans, good distortion, and good 'overdrive'). A lot of the time, the modeling doesn't capture an overdriven amp sound well... that is something to look for. I know Rainer has experience with the Roland amps; I have not, but I've heard good things about them. The Peavey amps, I have heard, and they have some good sound to them, but I don't think they have a ton of flexability. I'm sure someone around here has played through one, and I think they are worth checking into. But, by all means, check out the Beringer and play it, but I would highly recommend playing through some others. Ok, I'll be sure to check it out. I'm open to any and all advice, and I'm willing to play through any amp and try it out! Like I said, I'm willingj to try anything, I'm open to all options, I'm going to do all of my homework before I buy! Thanks again, Bo Answer: Hey rainer, what do you think about the roland cubes? I'm hoping to be able to go to a couple of music stores tomorrow and play on some various amps, including the ones that we have talked about on here. I'll let you know how it went when I get back on. Answer: Well, things didn't go as planned and so I didn't get to go to any music stores. I am going to go maybe tomorrow(depending on the hurricane damage from today) if not tomorrow then maybe this weekend. Answer: closed! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
