The thumping rock tone
Question: Hello I was wondering how to get that really cool rock tone. The one that's creamy and wacks you in the stomach during a gig. I've got a valve amp so I suppose you have to be pretty load. The problem with my amp is that it sounds a little harsh, but I do have a pacifica so I suppose it would sound different with a les paul. What sort of EQ and gain would you need? Answer: I don't know about EQ, but I'd use plenty of power amp gain, and just enough preamp gain to get the job done. I think the "whacks you in the stomach" part comes from sheer, brutal sound pressure levels (volume), though. If it's whacking you in the stomach, just think of what it's doing to the moving parts of your ear!... Nate Answer: Sounds like you need... a bassist. Answer: a guitar with good pickups with make a huge difference Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. Answer: Originally Posted by thesteve i've found that increasing the mids helps...i hate my tone when I'm lacking mids. Depends on what you're going for. I keep my mids low, but I keep my highs up. It bothers me when I don't have enough highs. But a bassist is what really puts the low end thump in a rock band. Answer: I used to love that kind of EQing. Experiment with this: turn your highs all the way down including prescence. Then turn your mids up all the way. Play it and slowly turn your mids down, but don't turn them lower than 12 o' clock., then gradually turn your highs up. stop when you hear a desired tone. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
