Me want amp!
Question: Hey all. I'm looking for the tube amp to end all tube amps. I have the price range of about $750-$1000 and i wanna buy an amp that will be the last one i will want to buy. At the moment i own a Peavey XXL, and I was thinking of upgrading to the XXX. I like getting a good smooth clean sound with a great crunchy distortion. Even if u dont know which one i want, just ideas would be cool. Please email me at nckcool_11@yahoo.com, or if ur lazy u can just post here wutever is cool. Answer: I own the XXX, and it's been great so far. Gets kind of heavy on those occasional long walks, but hey....recruit some roadies . But really, this is a good amp. My first one had a loose solder or something, so i just returned it and got a new one. I think a few leaked out from the factory that were faulty (as happens with all products on occasion), but if you buy new, you've got that nifty warranty. Other than that, no problems with the new, "non-faulty" one. Overall, the XXX would be a wise choice, in my opinion. Answer: For your price range, the 5150 or the XXX are good. But I wouldnt say either is "the tube amp to end all tube amps". What kinda sound are you looking for? Heavy distortion? British crunch? Strictly jazzy cleans? Let us know exactly the kinda tone you want, and I can recommend several to look in to. Like, you said, "smooth clean" and "great crunchy distortion", but that can apply to a lot of different styles of music. Metal? Or more modern/alternative rock? Answer: For your price range, the 5150 or the XXX are good. But I wouldnt say either is "the tube amp to end all tube amps". Good way to describe that one. I know theres alot better out there, but for i payed, i'm pleased with my XXX. Answer: Carvin makes great tube amps. i own a Legacy which has a really smooth lead channel. if you prefer a heavier modern kind of distorion, you'll like the MTS. to me, the trump card that made me go for a carvin is their ablility to have great lead channels, and great clean channels. good luck finding the right tube amp for you! Answer: well... musical styles... hmm Probably the hardest kind of music I will play is Rage Against the Machine. I like playing some stuff like Hoobastank (actually from the Album Hoobastank, not The Reason) I also the guitar from Lit, which as I remember uses a Carvin. So I guess I'm a rock player. I think the best way to describe my dream distortion is a Great crunch and many levels or gain. The clean I like is basically Rock clean, but with no reverb or anything. I really like Incubus, like from Talk Shows on Mute, thats some great clean. I hope i helped, but If i didnt just tell me. Answer: For 750 - 1000 you aren't going to get the tube amp to end all tube amps. You can however, get a nice amp. Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine used a 50 watt Marshall JCM800 2205 tube head through a Peavey (4x10 or 4x12) halfstack. Those can be had within your price range, but they aren't the most versatile amps in the world. If you want a sweet distortion though and you don't want too many frills on the amp, they are awesome. I have a friend who got one, and besides being really frickin' loud, he gets awesome tone out of it too. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
