need a good tube amp
Question: OK....need some help here.... I am primarily an acoustic player....managed to get my hands on a Gibson LP Standard ...now looking for a good tube amp to unleash its true potential... ...need the amp primarily for practice at home....then to bring for P&W at church....small church...seats about 250 max... ....just cant decide whether to get something like a Fender Blues Junior ...15 Watts, small, portable...can mic it into the PA if needed.. ...or a bit larger....like a Hot Rod Deluxe....and just get a good attenuator...maybe a Weber MASS or THD HotPlate.... ...would like an amp that I can keep for life....willing to spend some good coin on it !..as long as it is worthy of course.... Suggestions?? Comments? Answer: Originally Posted by Jesse Joshua OK....need some help here.... Suggestions?? Comments? Well, I will say this: I have a blues Jr. and I needed an attenuator for it, it's loud. Answer: Most tube amps can get "loud", unless they're really underpowered (I put loud in quotes because it can be subjective a lot of times). I have a 30 watt tube amp that can get just as loud as my previous amp, which was 100 watts. The difference is headroom. Get a bigger amp if you want to have more cleans at louder volumes. Get fewer watts if you want to be able to push the amp a little in to overdrive and pure cleans aren't important. Both amps you mention are great amps. I suggest you try them out to see how loud they really are and see which one fits your needs the most. If you wanted my opinion, an attentuator can always make a loud amp quieter, but only a mic and PA system can make a quiet amp louder, which doesn't seem to be something most people own themselves. A louder amp gives you more room to grow in to it. On the other hand, the Blues Jr. is a great amp that is probably as loud as anyone really needs. So in the end, you're gonna have to make up your mind on your own. Sorry Answer: Get a Boogie Dual Rec full stack. Major Tom sells good attentuators. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
