Need amp advice...Fast!
Question: Ok I have $100 store credit to buy an amp. This may be the best shot i have to get new hardware for at least 4 months. Price is $400-500. My guitar is a squire fat strat. I have a mega distortion pedel by boss. Need for a horrible band that plays really loud, Worship music (mic'd), genre's I play. Rock/Pop, Progressive Rock, Altenative, and Heavy metal. The credit is gone Sept 10. Answer: Peavey tube amp. Or for the more expensive end, Mesas and Marshalls serve well. Answer: Peavey Classic 30 sounds good. Answer: Or the Ultra or even Triple XXX if you do a lot of heavy stuff. (I'm looking into getting one myself...) Answer: To r4ecommend though, we really need a good idea of how much you can spend. By the fact that your guitar is a Squire Strat I would guess that your price range is lower then that required to get a Peavey XXX, but I could be wrong. But those are really the only real cost effective hi-gain amps on the market now. They're still expensive, so if you can find an Ultra or Bravo, those would serve well... Answer: Due to the situation. Cost is much less of an object than normal. $400-500 is about right. Also I need it to be semi-portable. Answer: But you think i should get a peavy? Answer: I don't think they're reccommending just ANY Peavey - what I hear is a reccommendation for a Peavey product that uses all-tube circuitry. The Classic 30 is an amp that is competent at many musical styles and sounds great. For me, it's got a bit too much power (30 watts, which may or may not seem like a lot or a little to you), but I still enjoy playing through a good Classic 30. Evrything else gets up into the $1000+ range. Answer: What about a Digital mod amp? I also need easly adjustible distortion. Effects arn't as important because i can do tremelo, and harmonics manualy. Answer: Originally Posted by celly_guitar What about a Digital mod amp? I also need easly adjustible distortion. Effects arn't as important because i can do tremelo, and harmonics manualy. Modeling amps are OK, but they're nowhere near as good as all tube amps. Take this advice and stick with all tube amps. If you don't need effects, that's all the more reason just to go with a plain old all tube amp. All tube amps have extremely responsive distortion circuits, because of the nature of the tubes, usually not too many extra un needed features, and just plain old great tone. Peavey all tube amps are still a great choice. Answer: go for tube, and you really won't be sorry. I might reccomend the Peavey Classic 30, thou i have never played one. Their reviews seem great, and seem very versitale. It doesn't seem like it would be to hard to transport, either... I play a peavey xxx and really like it. Peavey's been a good brand to me, so i would go with the classic 30. Good luck. Answer: OK I'm thinking i will take your advice and get a peavy classic 30. I want to get brown sound wihtout getting super loud even though i don't need it to practice. Brown sound is what you want for prog right? Also playing for a while will help me actualy work morw on skill instead of messing around with the effects and settings on a SS. Thanks for the advice so far. Answer: Yup Yup Go For a Peavey Classic 30... Im getting mine tomorrow --Woohoo!! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
