Crybaby trouble
Question: I'm having a bit of trouble with my Crybaby 353Q wah. Whenever I engage it, it seems to think that no matter how much I wiggle my foot up and down, it wants to sound like the pedal is engaged heel-down. Once in a while I can get a sweep from heel to toe, but as soon as I pull up the slightest bit it becomes muffled "heel down" sounding again. I've had the effect since May, and the problem suddenly appeared a week or so ago. Help? -Nick Answer: sounds like the pot may have died. Answer: could be springs that are stuck. Or other mechanical problems. Or like steve suggested, a bad pot. I would look into all possible mechanical problems (that is, something in the pedal that doesn't move the way it should) before replacing the pot. A good wah pot can be expensive because the taper is usually specially made for the pedal (not an audio or linear taper). Answer: How would I check for mechanical problems? I'm not too confident about opening it up and poking around. -Nick Answer: ok, if you're not comfortable opening it up, you should probably just take it to the place where you bought it or contact Dunlop. Since you've only had it since May, I would think it would still be under warranty. Since you've only had it since May, I would think it would still be under warranty. My brother got it for me for my birthday, and I think he got it from music123.com. If you could give me some basic instructions, I'll probably take a peek under the hood before I send it in. I actually got it to work today after rocking it back and forth a good deal. -Nick Answer: Open it up and look at the top near the pot. There should be a little grooved piece of plastic connected to the moving part of the pedal that is supposed to catch the grooves connected to the pot to make it turn and make the "wah" sound. Make sure it's catching the groove right. There's a screw that keeps a little plastic "holder" on to keep the grooves stuck together. This possibly came loose. If it didn't, then I imagine the pot went pad. If you can't understand my directions, I can take pics of mine and show you what I mean. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
