How loud would a 5 watt head be?

Question:
As I understand watts is a way to say how much volume it can produce? Well how loud could a 5 watt head be? Yeah I found thismini cat head
Answer:
5 watts can be uncomfortably loud in a small/medium room.
Wattage measures the total power dissipation thats occuring through the speaker. Thats linear.
The way we percieve that power is not linear. From 5 watts then, 10 watts isn't twice as loud. The difference between 5-10 watts won't be all that noticeable. It actually takes 10x the actual power to double the percieved volume, meaning, given all things equal in an amp, a 50w amp will sound twice as loud as a 5w amp.
However, 5 watts may be too low for gig-level volume- it doesn't have the headroom for the cleans, and you'll simply be distorting it at a decent volume to go over drums.
Answer:
5 watts is probably perfect for a practice size amp.
Answer:
5 watts through an efficient speaker could be dang loud. Just ask Rainer, who has a 6W Fender Champ and complains about having to turn to loud before breakup levels (at least he did once).
anyway...Bad Cat makes pricey, but dang good amps.

It's waaaay loud for bedroom practice. Although it can't stand it's own against a drummer, it's more than loud enough as a practice amp. A 5W head through a good cab will be very loud. Not too much headroom, but a lot of overdrive possiblity.

Answer:
Like has been said, it depends on the speaker(s). A pair of really efficient 12's will be probably 4 times as loud as an 8" speaker that many 5 watt amps come with. With that said, how loud? Too loud if its cranked up to sound good for practicing alone, especially if someone else in the house wants to watch TV, study, or sleep, and not loud enough for a "regular" (non P & W) full band context, at least not without some external help (monitor) . It may be just about right for most P & W applications.

Fine then, it's not loud enough for your average rock drummer.

Hand-wired eh?
What about that deal over at Carvin guitars? Don't they have an amp there for about 900 with tons of features? I think I'd go for that over a 700$ 5 watt tube myself.

As amazing as the V3 looks, and as much as people expect it to be a Mesa-killer, the reality is that i can't OD a V3 the same way I'd be able to OD a Mini Cat. The two amps are in completely different classes in terms of what they're designed for.
Answer:
I'm waiting for the VERY LIKELY v3 2x12 combo to come out.
Answer:
i'm betting they make one...look at how many ppl have asked for one...in fact, you can go http://www.carvin.com/carvinbbs/viewtopic.php?t=1924 here and let them know you want one...
maybe we should wait and see what happens at NAMM... (that is this week right? or did i miss it?)
