looking for a new amp
Question: i have a MIM fender fat strat right now and im planning on selling it along with my fender p-bass. with that cash and a little more i want to buy a new guitar and an amp. guitar: the guitars ive looked at so far are the agile 3500, epiphone les paul, tokia love rock, epiphone elite/elitist. i think the agiles are more in my budget but ive heard bad things and great things about them. i play both rythmn and lead for my church praise team. we play mostly chris tomlin, crowder, redman...so on. so i need something that sounds good both distorted and clean. amp: i want a half stack or full w/e (not too sure on amps) i dont know specific models yet, but i like the orange amps. again, i don't really know anything on amps and i need an amp that sounds good quiet and really loud. i havnt really thought this whole thing through yet about what i want, but i need something that will last me qutie a while and also wont keep me in debt forever. i dont really know much about pedals because ive been using my v-amp, which i dont really like (cant get a good sound out of it) my budget is probably around 1000..give or take a few hundred. any suggestions would be appreciated ^^ thanks. and sorry if you can't understand something...i tend to ramble and forget what im talking about. Answer: you definately cant buy a half stack if you plan to sell your guitars. i would buy a nice combo if i were you. what kind of music do you plan to play? Answer: ya, unless you are like a dude who gigs alot, you don't need a full stack. Unless your church has a spare cab somewhere, then you would only have to bring the head which is a lot lighter than a combo. Answer: actually, if You gig "alot", the last thing Yer gonna wanna lug around is a full stack!!! bobby Answer: Originally Posted by Bobby Simcox actually, if You gig "alot", the last thing Yer gonna wanna lug around is a full stack!!! bobby Craig Anderton had a "Stack in a Box" project in one of his books. That looked interesting. Answer: Originally Posted by CheshireCat DO NOT TRADE UP FROM AN MIM STRAT TO AN EPI, TOK, OR AGILE!! The MIM Strat is far superior to all those guitars put together. Well remember that the Epiphone Elitist is way better than the standard Epiphone line. In fact, you pretty much end up with the equivalent of a Gibson Les Paul for a less money. In this case you would be trading up from the MIM Strat which is not a bad guitar in and of itself. I think that you should buy a nice combo amp for your Strat unless you've really got your heart set on a particular guitar that you feel will meet your demands. Answer: i don't only need the amp for praise team. while right now that will be its main use, but i used to play with my friends alot and i might do so again and start gigging. all the amps i have now, which are bass amps, broke so im looking for a nice guitar amp that will last me for quite a bit. my church might acually buy an amp for the praise team, and im not going to be playing for them after i graduate this summer, so its main use in the future will be with a more louder crowd. Answer: hmm...in that case, you could go for something larger. Peavey Classic 50, Peavey Valveking, Traynor YCV80, Fender Hot Rod Deville...all three of those would be good as general rock amps. it's really hard to give more specific suggestions without more specific examples of the sound you want. also, i'm going to split this thread and send stuff about amps to the amps and accessories forum Answer: Apparently the ValveKing is great for metal. Peavey Ultra Peavey 5150 Yamaha T50C Peavey Bravo Marshall DSL401 Trace Elliot Speed Twin ^ Just a few high gain voiced amps that you may be able to find for under $400 used. Answer: ok first off, this is simply my opinion, i would concentrate on either a nice guitar or a nice amp. if youre wanting something thats going to last. now you can get some prtty descent amps for cheap but i figured id chime in as the little voice that says " hey why settle" if youre looking for a just a good rock n roll sound i would go with a marshall jcm 900. you can get a used one with 2 channels fairly cheap. now if youre looking for an angrier sound at a cheap price id recommend the peavey 5150. a good solid head.( though everyone ive owned has had problems and been more expensive to fix than my marshalls. now that still leaves the need for a cab and a guitar. as far as guitars go for the price, it comes down to whats important to you. cause my epiphone is just as good sounding as my old gibson les paul standard. the main difference was the comfort and subtlties in tone. cabs ive found make more of a difference than i first believed. for a long time i ran my marshall through the cab that comes with the valvestate head. i liked it because it picked up the low end of my sound alot better. what i noticed though when i upgraded was that my sound filled out. i sounded bigger. i guess im just rambling on. hope some of that was helpful. adam Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
