Answer:
It works fine. I've used an identical setup and didn't notice any problems with it

cool, thanks. i was just wondering cuz my friend was asking me which amp to get to plug both his electric and acoustic into and i didnt know what to tell him. i figured it would be ok but i just wanted to make sure to see if anyone has actually tried it themselves.

However, if one needed to run both through the same amp, I think it'd be important to focus on getting a good amp for electric guitar moreso than getting one that's good for both
Answer:
It won't sound that great thru an electric amp mostly because they don't have a full range speaker, and there is a steep drop off at around 5000 hz, so its missing the sparkly high end that makes an acoustic sound "correct". They sound very dull and flat. Here's what I do - I have a piezo horn tweeter that I put a cable on with test lead clips on the end. When I want to use an acoustic guitar thru it, I simply clip the leads onto the speaker lugs of the amp and set it on top of the amp. You do need to observe the correct polarity - I have mine clearly marked with yellow tape so that I can connect it properly without much light. It won't hurt anything if hooked up backwards, but will not sound right since the 12" and the tweeter would be out of phase. Obviously you need to use the cleanest setting on the amp and set to a flat eq. It isn't the greatest, but for the 5 - 10 bux or so that piezo's cost it is a huge improvement. You can get 'em at Radio Shack or about a zillion online retailers. Oh yeah, the piezo has a high internal impedance - you do no need to worry about it affecting the impedance of your amp.

Obviosuly you need to use the cleanest setting on the amp and set to a flat eq.
Alternatively. you can plug the acoustic into the effects-in of the amp, if it has a preamp with a volume control.

I've run my acoustic through my Hot Rod Deluxe at coffeehouse-style gigs, and it sounds ok. It really does miss that sparkly high end though. Running through a bass or keyboard amp would yeild better results.

Keyboard amps are really good for acoustics. Thats what I use for youth
