I've had two of the SCH-1's (a black one and a grey one), and bought the SCH-z in hopes of it being at least close...and it is, kinda. It has a big boost to it that keeps me from loving it. The tone knob on the 1 works like a normal guitar tone knob, while on the z, it sweeps from dark to bright. The circuit boards look pretty different too.
I did get to compare my black -1 to the -z, and was able to get a very similar sound out of the two (minus that boost).
Do you make any kind of loooper with a volume control? That might make it work for me.
