looking for small tube amp

Question:
Basically what I want is a super-clean tube amp with enough power to play a worship setting in front of 50-100 people without needing to mic it and without distorting much.... usually I do run through the PA too, I'm just trying to give you an idea of the maximum loudness I need. So probably 30W or so.
I don't like using amp distortion because I don't like messing with fx loops, and like to be able to change my tone without buying a whole new amp. Tube amps have that clarity and punch that I'm missing in my SS right now. A built in reverb would be nice, but not essential. Other than that, I'd be happy with 2 knobs. Volume and tone. or maybe 3 volume, tone, and master volume.
I have a friend who has an oldschool fender champ which is very close to what I want, except these things distort at too low of a volume (starts breaking up at about 4 with a bridge humbucker). So does anybody know of something that's similar to these, except with more clean overhead? Perhaps a Deluxe Reverb? Or other suggestions?
Answer:
sorry.... can someone please move this to it's proper forum .

No problem.
There was a thread on that Epiphone 10-watt recently, it's probably still on the first page of Amps.

I'm definately digging the ebay prices on those things. I would probably go with the galaxie 25 instead since it has tube driven reverb for not much more money. Have you ever played through one? I'm seeing a lot of complaints about hum/noise, but that replacing the tubes helps. Other than that, the only bad review I saw was complaining that it doesn't break up at 6. Which is exactly what I want.

I read a lot of threads at the epiphone forums and the 25 did not exactly get stellar reviews. The 10 probably isn't going to be loud enough for you although it probably would be fine if you were miked. Several people there mentioned that they had no problem using the amp through a PA.
Answer:
an epiphone amp probly. or you could go with a Peavey Classic 30

A very nice, small, squeaky-clean tube amp that I have some experience with is the Ampeg J-12. The J-12-T adds in a tremolo function.

My opinion after hearing 2 different Epi Galaxies...stay away.
They are probably among the worst sounding tube amps I've ever heard.
If you want small, powerful, and useful tone check out the Fender Pro Jr, Blues Jr or find a used Peavey Classic 20 (my preference since I own one).
Step up to a Peavey Classic 30 and you'll likely own the amp forever.

nobody ever mentions swapping out the 2nd position preamp tube for a lower-gain one, and this is actually quite effective.
My advice: find a 12au7 preamp tube and replace it with whatever is in position 2, and voila, problem solved.

It's my understanding that all three of those amps are designed to get that bluesy break up without earth shattering volume. I don't want that bluesy breakup, but rather, just the subtle warmth you get with tubes. Which yes, i suppose does mean some harmonics (aka distortion) is added. What i'm looking for is something that sounds as clean as possible without just being cold & sterile (like solid state).
That being said, which of those amps is going to sound the most like the clean on a larger fender amp, only with less power?

How loud are you thinking of going? Even a Fender Blues Jr would get pretty darn loud before it started to break up.

As dirty as most tube amps can get, higher wattage will almost always mean louder and cleaner. My Yamaha T50C can get quite dirty on it's clean channel, and absolutely brutal in the distortion section, but with the master wide open, there's a lot of squeaky clean power there. So something in the realm of 50 might actually be a good choice, if clean power is what you're after. 30 watters can generally stay pretty clean, but not as clean as 50+.
