Old Mesa Poweramp.
Question: Ive seen several of these on ebay. I dont know anything about them. And I wouldnt know where to begin searching for info on them. So I would like to know if anyone here knows about these amps. Also, the auction for this one says it has 8 preamp tubes, I was wondering, if this model really had that many preamp tubes, or if that was a type-o. Edit: I do know about harmony central, as a source for information, buts thats it. Answer: Well, I can help you with the tubes. I'm not sure why, exactly, a "poweramp" has preamp tubes, but it has 4 that I can see. In each 12ax7, there are essentially 2 tubes in one (2 halves), so there can be 8 gain stages total, but why he said 8 tubes, that is simply incorrect. For the 6l6's, I can't tell in the picture if there are 4 or 8- the picture is hard to see, although it does look like there are 8 in there (another 4 behind the first set). Having that many makes sense if it really is 95 watts per side, but that sounds like it could very well be a hassle if you don't need both sides (can you turn one off? You certainly can't run one side without a speaker), Answer: well, in the pic I think I see 8 tubes, I may be wrong thugh. Answer: Originally Posted by tht00 Well, I can help you with the tubes. Edit: would those pre-amp tubes be there like, just incase you wanted to use the amp as a standalone, so you wouldnt need a pre-amp if you didnt want one? It is one channel and it sounds like a power amp without a preamp. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
